Preds enjoy a command performance

From this morning’s Tennessean, a pleasant treat for an NHL team fighting their way down the difficult road to the playoffs:

Garth Brooks (remember him? Hat? Belt buckle? Sold more albums than Elvis or the Rolling Stones?) showed up at the Tin Roof in Brentwood Sunday afternoon, only to find a “Closed” sign in the window. Thwarted on the nachos front, then, right?

Uh, no. Garth was not there for salty treats nor for cold brews, but rather to play a “thank you” concert for the Nashville Predators. And Tin Roof management was more than happy to open the place up on a Sunday.

Why thank the Preds? Every member of the team made a donation to Garth’s Teammates For Kids charity. That organization works to provide health services and education for kids who need it. After the Preds delivered for his kids, Garth decided to deliver for the Preds. And since many of the Predators enjoy hanging at the Tin Roof, the club seemed like a natural fit.

The original article that I read yesterday said something like “Why thank the Preds? After they let Forsberg go after last season?.”

At least someone noticed it and corrected it.

I cannot believe the Red Wings’ families had a private performance by Garth Brooks Sunday, and the A2Y 19 were not invited.
It must have been a mistake.
Oh well, these things happen.

It’s hard to think of the Red Wings as anything approaching decent or charitable.

Well, maybe if you’re a Nashville music writer. Why not take a shot at Berry Gordy while you’re at it?

Also Mr. Forechecker, this is a nitpick, but “command performance” is a definite misnomer here. First, it was apparently Brooks’ idea, and second, the Preds aren’t a sovereign or head of state.

Guilty as charged…

It’s hard to think of the Red Wings as anything approaching decent or charitable. Good thing Garth didn’t try to do a joint concert for the Preds and the Wings.

“That would never have happened,” Jason assured us. “We wouldn’t let the Red Wings near this place. Forget it.”

So they same guy that can’t imagine the Red Wings being “anything approaching decent or charitable” quotes Arnott’s arrogance with no comment. The reality is that, if the Preds and Wings had to be honored jointly for their contributions, I have no doubt whatsoever that Mr. I would have gladly hosted that joint event (probably at Cheli’s Chili). And I also have no doubt that the Wings players would have been gracious to all of the Preds players. All except for that punk TooToo, of course. smile

The “Jason” that’s quoted there is the restaurant owner, not Jason Arnott.

Ah, I missed that. It didn’t really sound like Arnott, but it does sound like waht a fan would say...and probably would have been exactly what a Detroit restaurant owner (other than Cheli) would have said. Thanks for the clarification.
