A pre-game update from St. Louis by John Glennon of the Tennessean indicates that Radek Bonk is going to be a scratch tonight, a surprising development given the veteran center’s 79 games played last season:
Predators coach Barry Trotz has chosen to go with rookies Patric Hornqvist and Ryan Jones, as well as training camp surprise Joel Ward, instead of Bonk.
``I based everything on camp,’’ Trotz said. ``Joel Ward without question deserves to start with us and deserves to open the season based on his camp.
It appears that Barry Trotz is pushing the Meritocracy button hard here in the early going, between the inclusion of Ward on the Nashville roster and now the benching of Bonk.
After having posted an NHL-worst -31 in Plus/Minus last year (when he was supposedly brought in to be a shut-down defensive force), maybe it’s time for the grizzled vet to consider his post-hockey career; real-estate:
Radek Bonk has listed the two-bedroom, three-bath [home] ... in Highland Beach for $1.285 million.
Bonk paid $635,000 for the condo in July 2004.
If he can pull a deal like that off in today’s market, he definitely needs to quit his day job.

Furious February
The Preds host 10 home games during the month of February, including two games each against the Phoenix Coyotes, St. Louis Blues and, yes, the Detroit Red Wings. For discounted Nashville Predators tickets, including steeply discounted Ticketmaster fees, to these or any other upcoming home games, take advantage of this special offer, and use the special offer code "predators".

Ward deserves to start Game 1. Bonk, sad to say because I really like him, has been on a decline for all of the 2008 calendar year.
