Sullivan’s Hope

For the first time in a long time, we seem to have optimistic news about Steve Sullivan and a potential return to hockey after nearly two years lost to back injuries…

Last week, Sully was quoted on a website in his hometown of Timmins, Ontario as saying that, in an optimistic view, he could actually be back playing hockey by Christmas (hat tip to Dobber Hockey).  In this morning’s Tennessean, John Glennon got further clarification and comment:

Sullivan, who’s been out of action since February 2007 because of disc problems in his back, has experienced no setbacks in his workouts over the past six weeks and hopes to increase his workload this week.

“That’s a longer period (without setbacks) than I’ve had in a long time,’’ Sullivan said.

Now, it’s important to note that all we’ve got here is progress and optimism; there are still many steps to go before Sully even gets back on the ice in a workout mode.  All the same, the thought of adding a talented goal-scorer, even if he was only able to play a limited role, is enticing to Predators fans.

A healthy Sullivan sure would help the Preds, but like you said, and especially when dealing with back issues, a step at a time.

Sullivan is a heart-and-soul guy, and is an NHL presence whom I really miss.

I hate to be “that guy”, but I’ll believe he is back or even on his way back when i see his little self on the ice in a game. I’d love, LOVE to be wrong, I usually am.

Despite the losses of Kariya, Vokoun, Timonen and Walker in recent years, I feel Sullivan’s injury has had the biggest negative influence on the Preds.

Sully, given time to get back into form, would be a welcome addition to the side in the lead-up to the playoffs.
