The Great One, Not!

While hockey fans are taking the world of Twitter by storm of late, one famous figure who most certainly is NOT tweeting these days is Wayne Gretzky, despite a profile that appears to mark the Great One’s entry into the 21st century. Here’s the story from Information Week:
Posts on the page, which bears the user name Wayne_Gretzky and a photo of No. 99, began appearing Thursday and mostly address the sort of routine, moment-to-moment issues that are typical of what’s found on Twitter, which limits messages to 140 characters.
“A little cool in Scottsdale today but nothing like those poor folks back in Edmonton,” reads one post. “Giving Tweeter on my blackbarry [sic] a try out,” says another.
So what else has this nefarious evildoer been up to?
That bounty of beauties in the “Following” section looks more like the work of a creepy Internet stalker than that of the NHL’s all-time scoring champion. Heck, “scoring” is probably the last thing this guy has to worry about.
The one portion of this that did feel authentic, however, was the material posted; they were the typically banal, everyday posts that bring to mind a 40-something guy that has bigger concerns on his mind than social networking online. Combine that with a hockey player’s traditional aversion to controversy, and you have scintillating tidbits like, “Happy with how the team played last night. Solid effort. Columbus on Sat.”
*yawn*
The first post, “Shaq told me I had to start using Tweeter. Now what?” says it all; this imposter doesn’t add much to the Twitterverse, while THE_REAL_SHAQ is indeed out there, and ripping it up:
“If u r not an expert, put yo voicebox on mute, lol Shaquille oneal”
