Who won the Tampa-Vancouver trade?

Since we’ve got a few days between the opening games in Europe and the main Opening Night here in North America, I guess we should thank the Vancouver Canucks and Tampa Bay Lightning for making a trade that can generate some conversation while we wait.
For a deep dive into Michel Oullet’s numbers, and a case for Vancouver possibly landing a gem, head on over to MC79Hockey:
I’ve been impressed with Mike Gillis so far. I know that there was a lot of criticism of his strategy this summer but he struck me as a guy doing the right thing: if the move didn’t make sense, he didn’t make it. It was like the polar opposite of Kevin Lowe’s 2007. If Ouellet ends up in the NHL, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he ended up putting up decent numbers. At the very least, it should make Kyle Wellwood feel the need to stay in shape.
The consensus appears to be leaning towards Vancouver winning this one, even from the Tampa perspective. Then again, maybe we poor bloggers just don’t understand what it takes to assemble “one of the best teams in NHL history”.

Huh. I must have missed that. I’ve been focusing on how he hasn’t made hte playoffs in two years.

Furious February
The Preds host 10 home games during the month of February, including two games each against the Phoenix Coyotes, St. Louis Blues and, yes, the Detroit Red Wings. For discounted Nashville Predators tickets, including steeply discounted Ticketmaster fees, to these or any other upcoming home games, take advantage of this special offer, and use the special offer code "predators".

The problem with Ouellet is that he has cleared waivers. He is in the minors. To come back to the NHL, he must clear re-etnry waivers. Since he is an unrestricted free agent next summer, there is no gain to leaving him in the minors.
The question is will Ouellet clear re-entryy waivers? If he doesn’t he won’t play in Vancouver. If Vancouver wanted him without that big question mark, the could have claimed him on his first trip though the waiver wire. Not doing so is a mistake.
