After all of the debate and the back and forth between fans going into the 2010 NHL entry draft, the Oilers ended up with both Taylor and Tyler. Of course Tyler Pitlick selected 31st was not Tyler Seguin, but the young centreman was not supposed to be available in the second round and the Oilers were fortunate to select him.

The Edmonton Oilers have announced a minor trade Thursday afternoon sending centreman Ryan O’Marra to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenceman Bryan Rodney. From the Oilers’ press release:
Rodney, 27, has played in 41 games this season with the Syracuse Crunch collecting 20 points (5G, 15A)
The 6’0”, 200-pound rearguard has played 33 career NHL games with the Carolina Hurricanes scoring a goal and adding 12 assists. In 280 AHL games with the Hartford Wolf Pack, Albany River Rats, Charlotte Checkers and the Crunch, Rodney has recorded 156 points (29G, 127A). He was also named an AHL All-Star in 2010 and 2011.
Rodney, who is from London, Ontario, completed a five-year Ontario Hockey League (OHL) career in 2005, totaling 234 points (47G, 187A) and 224 penalty minutes in 311 regular-season games with Ottawa, Kingston and London. He also won the 2005 Memorial Cup with London.

Oilers lose 4-3 to Leafs in OT
The Oilers came to play Wednesday night and while players like Ryan Jones, Ales Hemsky and Magnus Paajarvi would get oh so close, but not find the back of the net, goals by Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle would make the game. As it looked all but certain that the Oilers would drop another decision to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Jordan Eberle charged into the offensive zone and blasted a shot past James Reimer. Jordan Eberle is a pressure player at its best.

Curtis Hamilton: Prepare as Best You Can and Keep Your Eyes Forward

The Edmonton Oilers have in their systems several World Juniors players and stars. Ryan Smyth, Devan Dubnyk, Taylor Hall and of course Jordan Eberle have all had the honour. Those names may come to mind more easily than 2010 2nd round selection Curtis Hamilton, but Hamilton should not be forgotten. In 7 games at the 2011 World Juniors in Buffalo, Hamilton won silver, scored 4 goals and was second only to Brayden Schenn in that regard.

Oilers Will Be Sellers, But There are No Guaranteed Sales

Edmonton Oilers’ GM Steve Tambellini addressed the Edmonton media today and talked about all things Oilers and the trade rumour mill. There were a few surprises, but you also have to take what Tambellini said as a suggestion. Tambellini spoke of Hemsky, Hall, Khabibulin and Smyth saying that he is not shopping any of these players, but that certainly doesn’t mean that he isn’t open to suggestions or offers.

Taylor Fedun Once Again Skating
by Lisa McRitchie on 02/14/12 at 10:00 AM ET

For yet another season, the Edmonton Oilers have seen some terrifying injuries and accidents. The most recent was Taylor Hall’s warmup skate cut to the face, but shockingly that may not have been the most horrific injury. The most horrific injury suffered this year, when you consider the end results, had to have been Taylor Fedun’s broken femur suffered during a race to the puck in a pre-season game against the Minnesota Wild. Taylor Hall’s injury elicited calls for mandatory helmets on the ice during warmups and Taylor Fedun’s injury once again was cause for the league to look at a no touch icing rule.

Linus Omark is Back on His Feet

Ales Hemsky has not always been the most talked about Oiler when it comes to trade rumours. No, that honour was once held by Linus Omark. Especially when Omark was sent to the AHL Oklahoma City Barons before he could play his final 4 NHL games that would require him to pass through waivers to move up and down from the farm team.

Drew Czerwonka: Healthy and Scoring

From the moment we first met, I knew that we would get along. It’s not as though I’m a difficult person, but the Oilers have been doing an exceptional job of drafting all around good hockey players and people. Drew Czerwonka, captain of the WHL Kootenay Ice is certainly one of them.

Andy Sutton Off of the Trade Market - Updated
by Lisa McRitchie on 02/13/12 at 10:00 AM ET

Cross Andy Sutton off of the Oilers’ list of available players. Rumours floated all weekend that Sutton would be re-signed imminently and Monday morning TSN’s Bob McKenzie tweeted:
Andy Sutton’s new 1 year deal with EDM has a base salary of $1.5m with $250K in games played bonuses.
This deal is great because Andy Sutton is the first Oiler in well over a decade to get suspended for standing up for teammates and playing a hard, physical game. At the same time, this deal is potentially dangerous because Andy Sutton is the first Oilers in well over a decade to receive multiple suspensions on the season for playing a hard, physical game.

2012 Draft Prospect Griffin Reinhart Mid-Season

Griffin Reinhart and the Edmonton Oil Kings have been having an amazing season. The Oil Kings are leading the Eastern Division of the WHL and Reinhart is second in points for defencemen on the team. Leading the team is Oilers’ prospect Martin Gernat but the two are separated by only 4 goals, but 13 points.
Reinhart has 12 goals, 16 assists, 23 penalty minutes and is a +15 all with a quarter of a season left to play. These numbers make Reinhart and attractive prospect going into the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
