It was bound to happen, but I didn’t think that it would be this soon. The Edmonton Oilers saw their winning streak snapped at six thanks to the efforts of the Phoenix Coyotes.

Omark May Not Be Long For The Farm Team

As per Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal’s tweets this evening, it seems as though left winger Linus Omark may once again be disgruntled. Omark made some memorable comments to the media after being sent to the Oklahoma City Barons and blamed politics before the season began last season.
When the team chose to send Omark to Oklahoma this season after sitting the feisty shootout sensation in the pressbox, it was done quietly and no announcement was made until Omark had joined the Barons who were currently on their road trip.

Oilers extend winning streak to 6 with 3-0 win over the Kings
The Edmonton Oilers began their six game road trip in Los Angeles against a team that featured several ex Oilers; Matt Greene, Jarret Stoll, Ethan Moreau, and most recent addition Dustin Penner. The Kings and their fans are of course unhappy with the Oilers due to Dustin Penner’s production with the team, that Ryan Smyth asked for a trade back to the Oilers, and that Colin Fraser has yet to play a game as a King. As the Oilers left Staples Centre, Kings’ fans were not any more pleased.

Grant Fuhr Coaching for the Love of the Game

At one time or another, every one of us has thought that we would like to give back and do something good for others. It’s easy to think about doing something good, or even give money to someone’s efforts, but it is quite another to spend your time, energy, talents and emotions without expecting anything in return.

Griffin Reinhart: More Like His Father Than Brothers

Griffin Reinhart is the middle son of Paul Reinhart, former defenceman for the Calgary Flames. Griffin’s older brother Max is a centreman who like his father has also been drafted by the Calgary Flames and his younger brother Sam is also a centreman and days away from his 16th birthday and so still a few years away from his 2014 draft year. Max was selected in the third round, Griffin is projected to go top ten and even now Sam is said to possible go in the top five. The Reinhart family is quite the incredible story.

October Rookie of the Month: Nugent-Hopkins

As surprising as the news that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins would play the 2011-12 season with the Oilers was, the news that The Nuge has earned the Rookie of the Month title for October must have been… well, even less of a surprise. The only way that Nugent-Hopkins would have been sent back to junior this year would have been if he didn’t play a game with the Oilers to begin with.

With Andy Sutton’s suspension continuing through the first four games of the Edmonton Oilers’ upcoming roadtrip, and Cam Barker out day to day with a sore shoulder, the Oilers needed some help on the blue line. For Sunday’s game, the team called up Alex Plante. This move surprised many who thought and hoped that Colten Teubert would receive the call to play his first NHL game. Due to some passport issues, Teubert was not able to make the trip. Now that things are settled, Teubert looks to make his NHL debut against his former club.

Oilers’ Goaltenders Earning Stars

After serving his jail time this summer and two horrible seasons on a four year deal most Oiler fans, including me, thought that Nikolai Khabibulin would be on an extremely short leash and hoped that Devan Dubnyk would be ready to shoulder most of the weight this season. In fact, many of us looked at situations where Khabibulin could play in the AHL and newly signed goaltender Yann Dannis could play with Dubnyk. The resounding response from Oklahoma City Barons fans was “What makes you think we want him?”

Khabi-boo-lin Earns Oilers’ Halloween Eve Win

The Edmonton Oilers remain on top of the NW division and the Western Conference with their win over the St. Louis Blues. This was the last Oilers home game until November 17th due to the Canadian Finals Rodeo which will make use of Rexall Place for the next couple of weeks. The only thing that matters to Oiler fans right now is another notch in the win column making it now five in a row. At this time last season, Oiler fans were wondering if they would get five wins on the season; my how things have changed.

Although the Oilers have had a difficult past decade… or three, here at Oil Patch, the future looks bright.
