Replacements For My Fantasy All Star Game

I picked my all stars.  I was working under the assumption that each team had to be represented and not by a rookie who isn’t playing in the main game.  In the past, I have updated my All Stars at the last minute to replace those who would not be available for the game.  I will do that now and I will keep the assumption that each team must be represented.  That means if a team’s only player would not be coming to the All Star Game, then he must be replaced with a player from his team.  If a player who is not the only player on his team is not there, he can be replaced by a player on any team.

Seven players are in need of replacement:  Tobias Enstrom, Ales Hemsky, Brandon Dubinsky, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin who are injured and Jarome Iginla, who is out for the historically dubious reason of visiting his sick grandmother and Henrik Zetterberg who requested his omission from the team and thus was never added in the actual NHL game.

This opens up six forward spots and one defenceman spot.  Three are given to certain teams: Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers and four are free to be used by any team as Enstrom’s injury still leaves Dustin Byfuglien on the roster, Zetterberg leaves Nicklas Lidstrom on the roster, Crosby and Malkin leave Marc-Andre Fleury and Kris Letang on the roster.

I will add the following seven players:
Jay Bouwmeester Calgary Flames
Danny Briere Philadelphia Flyers
Marian Gaborik New York Rangers
Claude Giroux Philadelphia Flyers
Ryan Kesler Vancouver Canucks
Dustin Penner Edmonton Oilers
Teemu Selanne Anaheim Ducks

Bouwmeester will take the open defensive spot because he is the most reliable Calgary player with Iginla out.  This forces the remaining players to be forwards.  Dustin Penner and Marian Gaborik are the lone picks for their respective teams.  The remaining open forward spots go to Ryan Kesler, Claude Giroux and Danny Briere, who will be at the NHL All Star game and Teemu Selanne who won’t.
