Talbot Having A Good Final Series

If I had told you earlier this season that Maxime Talbot would be one of the best players in the Stanley Cup finals, you would probably have scoffed at me.  He is a solid NHL player, but hardly one of the key players on the Pittsburgh Penguins.  In Talbot’s four years in the NHL, he has never scored more than 26 points in a season.  He is a good depth player, but hardly a star.  Nevertheless in the finals so far, his four points are second on his team.  His +3 +/- rating is team leading.  The Penguins probably wouldn’t be in game seven if not for the play of Talbot in this series.

You clearly don’t watch most Pens games.  He may not be a superstar forward, but he absolutely is one of the Pens’ key players.  His speed, puck-pursuit, grit, and aggressiveness are essential to the Pens’ success.  Without his energy they would not be in most games.  He is the kind of guy that gets the superstars going and keeps the team in games with his PK skills, etc.  He is definitely one of the most important Pens Even if he is, say, 6th most important, the impact he has on the guys ahead of him is what really groups him up there with the rest of them.

Wasn’t he the player who slashed Datsyuk on the foot in Datsyuk’s first game back?  Wow, what character!  If the league didn’t want the Penguins to win so bad, he should have had a slashing penalty at the very least for that.

OMG

this doesn’t tell you how good Talbot is playing.  this tells you how poorly the rest of the team is playing and how badly the Wings are shutting them down 5-on-5.
