All-Star pricing announced

Today, the NHL announced the pricing for tickets to the NHL All-Star weekend, which will be in Raleigh on January 28-30.  $260 gets a lower level seat for the skills competition (Saturday January 29)  AND the All-Star game (Sunday January 30).  Upper level packages are $200.  This price is set by the league, not the Hurricanes.  Tickets for only the ASG will be $180 downstairs and $135 upstairs.  This price point is pretty much in line with how they have been in the past, and seems reasonable to this fan.
The announcement was made today, and after the league sets aside its bounty of tickets, the season ticket holders will have the option to purchase.  Full season ticket holders are guaranteed the option to buy the whole package, while mini-plan holders like myself are pretty much being told that they’ll have the option for one or the other, but not both events. If any tickets remain after all options have been exercised or forfeited, they will be made available to the public.

When ASG merchandise becomes available, the Hurricanes will reap benefits of those sales up until one month before the game.  After Christmas, the League gets 100% of ASG merch sales.

While the Hurricanes top brass are tightening their purse strings, Hurricanes fans are being asked to loosen theirs.  While season ticket prices have remained static, there’s a bunch of extracurricular stuff happening this season.  Hundreds of fans have already committed to traveling to Finland for the season opener.  Travel packages for that were $2,200 per person and DID NOT include game tickets.  Tickets reportedly went for $600 per person for lower level seats to both games.  Add the All-Star game festivities for another $260 per person.  Add the occasional trip to Charlotte to watch the AHL Checkers.  That cost is minimal, but in total, Hurricanes superfans are being asked to spend an extra three grand per person to fully support the team this season.  And then we get to talk about the possibility of spending even more money for playoff tickets.

Me?  The trip to Helsinki is way too spendy for me.  Of the two ASG events (if I even get to choose), I’ll buy my ticket to the skills competition.  That, and my mini-plan to the Checkers will be my indulgence.

Lets see…....after little gary and daly and all the other lawyers at NHL HQ take their tickets, Then the big shots at Versus & NBC & TSN & CBC & RDS will take their tickets, Then the corporate advertisers will take their tickets…...... there should be about 50 seats left over. Of course, these tickets will end up on a online ticket broker site , where they will be marked up about 350%..... Enjoy paying $500 for a seat at the skills competition.

I’d rather watch training games in T.C.  where guys are playing for a job, and I’ll only pay $15 to get in.
