Stink. Stank. Stunk.
On Tuesday, the Mr. Hyde version of the Hurricanes showed up, and they were beaten badly by a Sens team struggling to find its own identity. The Sens looked anything but a team who had lost a bunch of games in a row, and their goaltender looked anything but a tenderfoot. At the end of the day, though, Carolina suffered its second consecutive 5-1 drubbing and its third straight loss overall.
Losing badly is painful, but to compound matters, the Capitals have been losing games, giving the Hurricanes the chance to catch up in the division. All the outside help in the world doesn’t matter if you can’t take care of your own business, and Carolina certainly hasn’t done that.
I won’t rehash the gory details, but the Senators had something like 23 shots in the second period alone. In the third period, the Canes had just two. It’s impossible to win games with those kinds of things going on.
The only bright spot is that Joe Corvo scored again against his former team. Since the trade last February, the Canes and Sens have met three times. Corvo has scored in each game and has six (5/1) points including two game-winning goals. His goal means that Carolina still hasn’t been shut out this season. Only one other team—the Red Wings—can say that about themselves.
Carolina will have a single home game on Thursday against the Maple Leafs before going back out on the road for a four game swing.

No lie, I was thinking “Stink, Stank, Stunk” last night about that game, too. GET OUTTA MY HEAD!
