On Friday, when the Coyotes came to town, Raleigh had an extraordinarily unusual sight for November. Snow. It may have only registered as a “dusting”, but it reminds me of something that happened back in January of 2000, on a day when the Yotes were here.
The Canes and Yotes were scheduled to play on Tuesday night, January 25. On Monday night, the entire state of North Carolina was pummeled with the worst snowstorm in this state’s history. While most of the state got between 12 and 14 inches overnight, Raleigh got 24 inches. The airports and highways were paralyzed, and there was no choice but to postpone the game. The Coyotes were supposed to play in Atlanta the following day, but with the airport closed, that game was postponed as well.
The Carolina-Phoenix game was made up two days later as a Thursday matinee. A frustrated Jeremy Roenick, then with the Yotes, sharply criticized the Hurricanes organization, the Raleigh airport, the city of Raleigh, the state of North Carolina, all its indigenous flora and fauna, and of course North Carolinians.
While Jeremy Roenick is respected as one of the greatest American born players, and certainly a juggernaut in the NHL ‘94 video game, people around here remember the fit he pitched back then.

I think a major shakeup is coming soon. Hopefully it will be a player trade to send a message and gaive Lavi a chance to work with the guys after they have been shook up. But it might just be him that goes. I look for something to happen within a week.
