Fox Sports South puts part of North Carolina in the dark

On Thursday, the Hurricanes lost 4-1 to the Penguins.  Carolina led though two periods, but things went very badly in a hurry for the Canes, and in the end Brandon Sutter’s first NHL goal was in vain.  The game went from awesome to crappy in about two minutes.  Unfortunately, a good portion of North Carolina was unable to see for themselves.

I live in Greensboro, which is about 70 miles from Raleigh.  I have never had a problem with Fox Sports South.  Unfortunately, I and a lot of other viewers had a major problem on Thursday.  We were unable to watch the Canes because our game was replaced with the feed to the Nashville Predators game.

Midway through the first period, just as Eric Staal and Sidney Crosby took matching minor penalties, the 300,000 people who are served by Time Warner Cable of Greensboro were shut out of that game.  Suddenly, our game was replaced by a Predators game.  I don’t know how many other cable systems throughout the state experienced this, but I know that Raleigh still had the Canes game.
I contacted my local cable office, and they told me that they were receiving hundreds of calls about it, but it was completely out of their hands.  Apparently, somebody at the Fox Sports Network decided that we were a part of the Nashville Predators viewing area.  I was provided with two phone numbers for corporate headquarters; one in Los Angeles and one in New York.  Unfortunately, those people only work from 9am to 5pm.  There was nothing that anybody could do.  Despite the fact that I live an hour away from Raleigh and the Canes were on the road, and this game was scheduled to be broadcast, this game was made unavailable to me.

I have contacted, to the best of my ability, Fox Sports Network via the lame “feedback” area of their lame website.  I have received no reply.  I have also contacted the Media Relations people with the Hurricanes hoping they could get to the bottom of this.  I have not heard back from them either.

Through some very diligent channel surfing, I discovered the game hidden on one of the HD channels way up in the 500s, but it wasn’t the channel that we’ve been told would broadcast Canes games in HD.  I missed most of the first, all of the second, and the beginning of the third. I tuned in just in time to watch the four goal outburst that the Pens had.
I have no idea how the Canes or Pens looked int he first and second, but from what I saw of the third, the Pens were everywhere.  It looked almost as if they had seven or eight guys on the ice.  They shut down every push that the Hurricanes made, and they made quick and thorough transitions.  They had an excellent period and the certainly deserved the big win.

Carolina will continue their road trip on Satruday with a game on Long Island.  Hopefully, Fox Sports South, or Fox Sports Carolina, or whatever it’s called, will fix this SNAFU and I’ll actually be able to watch.

That sucks, i mean, people in Nashville don’t even watch Preds games, and they think you want to?

Now thats weird, Im in Memphis, and ive been able to watch the Canes games before, even though im only in the Predators area…
So it seems like Fox Sports broadcasts whatever they want whenever they want, wherever they want to.

I live near Spartanburg, SC and many times on the weekends the Canes game is pre-empted by a college football or basketball game… and it isn’t local teams or even ACC/SEC teams that are playing. The program guide shows the Canes game is scheduled but they have another feed at game time. It is frustrating… and I can’t watch the game on Center Ice because it blacked out in this area due to FSN supposedly broadcasting it.

David, the Canes looked decent in the first, but what you saw in the 3rd period was mostly true in the 2nd period as well: the Penguins dominated. If it wasn’t for another strong effort from Leighton the score would’ve been much worse.

David, same problem here in Elon, N.C. (Alamance County).  Not on FSS or the home/away broadcast on CI.

I called TWC 3 times the night of the game and twice on Friday....lame excuses every time...bascially blaming it on FSS.

I emailed FSS through the feedback on the web too...at least I got a ticket number issued (???).

I will write this one off, but if it happens again...I feel sorry for the peep’s in the TWC office....Dumping the crap on the floor in their office and going to DirectTV (I called my friend with DirectTV and of course he was getting the home, away, and FSS feeds).

Hi,
It is the participating cricket world cup teams that make the event all the more interesting for fans. Well, if their favorite team is not participating in the tournament their levels of interest in the tournament will be low. In the world cup all the test playing nations are participating along with some teams that are not very well established in the cricket world.
