Habs fans using voter robots. Whatever.

Here’s one of the many perils of using a 100% digital voting process for the all-star game.
We’ve all seen how the Habs are crushing the ballot boxes with homer votes. But it isn’t that they’re really energetic and enthusiastic about voting. Some clever kids in Montréal have devised a javascript voting robot. Via Puck Daddy and the Pensblog:
Here’s the code, which came with instructions posted on an Habs message board.
Ingenious? You bet. In “the spirit of the thing”? Absolutely not.
It’s a completely ludicrous process anyway. Penguins defensemen Sergei Gonchar and Ryan Whitney are on the ballot, despite the fact that neither player has played a single game and neither will meet the eligibility requirements even when they do return from injury.
So what can the NHL do? Ban IP addresses who have cast the most ludicrous number of votes? Pull the plug on the “all-digital” program? Design a better fan balloting site? Ignore it? Abandon the fan voting altogether? Encourage other teams to use robots and provide the code for such?
I’m not sure that I should even care.

Thats pathetic is what it is. Habs should be ashamed that they have to do that.

I absolutely do not care about who goes to the ASG, but I do like seeing the league look stupid.
Nicely done, robo-friends.
