On Tuesday, the Hurricanes eked out an overtime win in Toronto after squandering a three goal first period lead. The win was the 239th of Peter Laviolette’s career, which ties him with John Tortorella for winningest NHL coach born in the United States.
Congrats to Lavi.
Game details later. I have to watch Katie Couric turn CBS’s Election Night coverage into a snoozefest.

That Laviolette has won 239 games as a coach is news.... why? When viewed against coaches with actual impressive won/loss totals, his “accomplishment” does not even register as a blip on the radar.
Scotty Bowman won 1,244 regular season and 223 playoff games as a coach. He has nearly as many playoff wins as has Laviolette total wins. Now THAT is impressive.
