Last week, Eric Staal scored five goals and added four assists in three games. He was named the NHL’s first star of the week. Those five goals helped him join an extremely elite club.
There are only five players, including Staal who have scored 30 or more regular season goals in each of the last four seasons. Dany Heatley, Jarome Iginla, Ilya Kovalchuk and Alexander Ovechkin are the other four. Vincent Lacavalier (28), Henrik Zetterberg (26) and Olli Jokinen (23) are all likely to hit 30 this season and join that elite club.
Hats off to Eric for this accomplishment.
In the four season span, Staal has scored 145 regular season goals to date. 45 in 2005-06, 30 in 06-07, 38 in 07-08 and 32so far this season.
Dany Heatley has 172. He scored 50 in 05-06, 50 again in 06-07, 41 last sseason, and 31 so far this season.
Iggy has 154 goals in this span. He scored 39 in 05-06, 35 in 06-07, 50 last season, and 30 so far this season.
Kovalchuk has scored 182. He had 52 in 05-06, 42 in 06-07 , 52 last season, and 36 so far this season.
Alexander the Eight has tallied an astonishing 210 goals in this span. He had 52 in 05-06, 46 in 06-07, 65 last season, and 47 this season.
Lacavalier had 35, 52 and 40 for the seasons 2005-06 through 07-08. He needs just two more this season to join the club.
Zetterberg had 39, 33 and 43. This season, he needs four more to get in.
Cane Killa Olli Jokinen had 38, 39 and 34. He has just 23 this season, but should just make it in.
