Ward clears waivers, Leighton claimed

I’ve been silent for a few days thanks to some work-related stuff, and despite a slew of off days for the Canes, a bunch has happened.

On Sunday, the Hurricanes reassigned Jiří Tlustý and Paddy Dwyer to Albany.  Presumably to save a little bit of dough while the Hurricanes had three days off between games.  They also placed goaltender Michael Leighton on re-entry waivers.  On Monday, they placed the disappointing defenseman Aaron Ward on waivers.

Ward cleared waivers, and Michael Leighton did not clear re-entry.  He was claimed by the Flyers, who will now pay half of his salary.

Pat Dwyer is available for recall, but Tlustý is not.  He’s running into more immigration issues. The process of acquiring a work visa is much more complicated since September 11, and while he is square with the American Hockey League, he has to go back through the whole process with the NHL.

Carolina, who has had three full days off, will return to the ice on Wednesday with a home game against the Stars.
