ASG a big hit in Raleigh

As a hockey fan, I’ve been really privileged.  In the last ten years alone, I got to attend the 2004 NHL Entry draft in Raleigh, I’ve been to six Stanley Cup final games in Raleigh.  I’ve touched the Cup on two occasions.  I’ve been in a room by myself with the Cup.  I’ve been to three Eastern Conference finals here in Raleigh.  And now the All-Star game here in Raleigh. Other fans in other cities don’t get this lucky, and I’m trying not to take any of it for granted.  I made the mistake, though, of opting out on the actual game, but I went to the Superskills Competition last night and had an absolute blast.

My fellow Caniacs have been having a great time, and that’s a given.  What’s been really great is the response from the fans who traveled to this event.  I’ve always made a point to talk to travelers in the parking lot while tailgating, and I heard nothing but raves from the visitors.  I didn’t make it out to the Friday night festivities, but everything that I heard was that it was amazing.  It’s easy for Canes fans and Raleighites to say good things about the RBC Center or the city of Raleigh, and it’s great to hear it from outsiders.

Headed to the ASG

I’m about to head out the door for the Superskills Competition and Red Carpet Show.  I don’t know how close to the carpet I’m gonna be able to get, but I’ll have some video and still photos of whatever I can get.

We opted out of the right to buy ASG tickets for the actual game, but we’re not about to skip the Superskills.

Hopefully, I’ll have something worthwhile to post when I get back tonight.

All-Star pricing announced

Today, the NHL announced the pricing for tickets to the NHL All-Star weekend, which will be in Raleigh on January 28-30.  $260 gets a lower level seat for the skills competition (Saturday January 29)  AND the All-Star game (Sunday January 30).  Upper level packages are $200.  This price is set by the league, not the Hurricanes.  Tickets for only the ASG will be $180 downstairs and $135 upstairs.  This price point is pretty much in line with how they have been in the past, and seems reasonable to this fan.
The announcement was made today, and after the league sets aside its bounty of tickets, the season ticket holders will have the option to purchase.  Full season ticket holders are guaranteed the option to buy the whole package, while mini-plan holders like myself are pretty much being told that they’ll have the option for one or the other, but not both events. If any tickets remain after all options have been exercised or forfeited, they will be made available to the public.

When ASG merchandise becomes available, the Hurricanes will reap benefits of those sales up until one month before the game.  After Christmas, the League gets 100% of ASG merch sales.
