On Friday, the Carolina Hurricanes announced that they’ve signed defenseman Michal Jordan to a three-year entry level contract. His Plymouth Whalers were eliminated from the OHL playoffs by the Windsor Spitfires, and he wasted no time in getting a professional contract. The 19-year old will report to Albany and join the Rats in the Calder Cup playoffs.
Like Zac Dalpe, the remainder of this playoff season doesn’t count as far the organ-eye-zational payroll is concerned. He’s technically on an amateur tryout contract until his two-way contract kicks in next season.
Jordan, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2008 entry draft, could have played one more season in the Ontario Hockey League, but there’s a lack of blue line depth in the Canes system, so it’s a good thing. He’s a little on the small side, at just 180 pounds, but he’s 6’1” and will probably grow a little taller and certainly heavier. He’s just 19 years old and will be quite a ways away from being ready for the NHL.
