On Saturday, a team of KHL Russian all-stars played an outdoor game against a team of “foreign” players. With Red Square looming in the background and -16C temperatures, a sparse crowd watched the foreign team, led by Jaromir Jagr, win 7-6.
The scoresheet was full of familiar and not-so-familiar names, including a very surprising one.
Former Washington Capitals defenceman Ben Clymer had a goal for the international team, as did Jaroslav Kudrna and Pavel Brendl.
Brendl, known in these parts as ”Krispy” was the #4 overall pick in 1999, but never amounted to anything in the NHL. He played parts of four seasons, totaling 78 games. 50 of those were with Philadelphia, another 26 with Carolina and two more with Phoenix. He managed just 22 (11/11) points in his NHL career and is one of the biggest high-first-round busts of all time.
