Mumble Mumble, Something About Ends Being New Beginnings In Ottawa

If you’re reading this, then you must have heard the news. Ottawa’s 11-year playoff appearance streak has officially come to an end at the hands of man’s greatest friend, mathematics. Ok, so Florida and Montreal played a role as well, but there no longer need be any questions about the issue.
There are six games left, but don’t be left in dismay; there’s still plenty left for you to ponder.

Sens Ready To Lather, Rinse, Repeat

What exactly is going on? Ottawa’s Ruutu taking pot shots back at the Lightning after their 3-0 win Sunday is not much of a surprise, but some subtler jabs by Murray at the still freshly fired Hartsburg do come as a bigger surprise.
Should it really be a surprise, though, that the Senators are looking down the barrel of the nigh-inevitable mathematical elimination tonight, but still plan to push through all seven remaining games?

A quick little morning update: there may well be Senators playoff hockey in Ottawa.
Just not featuring the Ottawa Senators.
Confused? Well, it’s all good, maybe.

Rickety Road Sens’ Biggest Challenge

More than a few days off now, and ponder the pitfalls and possibilities this team has undoubtedly done.
Not quite as hot as the Senators of late, Carolina is 8-1-2 in their last 11GP, and still very much a challenge for the Senators to face tonight, Joe Corvo always the Senators killer up the sleeve. It’s a five game road trip, and more than expectations and impossibility looming over their heads, it may well be the League’s third worst road record (12-18-4) that casts the biggest shadow of them all.

Sens On Fire, Fans Awaiting The Sprinklers

It’s been quite a ride through the past two seasons, the rise and fall of the Senators and the current stirring of the once disregarded beast.
No one really knows how any of it happened, or where the team will go from here, even as countless minds dwell on the matter. Still, it’s not often that teams in this position get to experience a dose of excitement this late in the season, and certainly rarely this futile.

There Must Be Something In The Water

Now there’s something you don’t see every day.
Whether you look at streaks, Ottawa having won 5 straight, or recent records, Ottawa being 9-1-0 in their last 10 games, there is no denying reality.
The hottest team in the NHL is nowhere near the playoff picture. What tom-foolery is this, and how did this scrappy squad manage to top the Rangers last night?

I’ll admit that I’m not normally a weekend poster. The morning before a game with the Isles certainly doesn’t look to break that trend.
But then, a glimmer of some fire to put under the Senators’ bench, and I can’t resist. Impressive, Islanders; I didn’t think you had it in you.

Sens Burn Both Montreal Goalies In Satisfying Win

From the start, you knew it was going to be a long, intense night. The amount of bleu, blanc, et rouge in the stands, coupled with the chants of “ole, ole ole ole..” not one minute into the game.
A 5-4 win is all you could ask for to silence the crowd, but the game had so much more going for it.

Senators Looking To Spoil Where It Stings Most

Slowly but surely, the season is coming to an end. The clock ticks down for the Senators, and every day the team must ask itself what one does when the final bell is about to toll, knowing full well that the option to achieve one’s goals is not on the plate.
I’m sure someone is remembering their youth at the moment, possibly with the words ‘algebra’ or ‘calculus’ floating about. Right now, though, beating Montreal sounds as good as any answer to scrawl down.

Sabres Let Sens Find A Way

Don’t call it a fluke, don’t call it an accident, but there was nothing normal about the Senators’ 4-2 win over Buffalo last night.
Yes, Elliott now owns the franchise record for longest winning streak by a rookie goaltender with six straight victories, but that atypical finish is just where the game’s oddities start.
