An empty NHL schedule? What do we all do with ourselves?
The All-Star break has finally arrived, possibly chopping away the momentum of Ottawa winning seven of eight points in their last four games.
But, most importantly, it gives most of the players time for themselves.
From Sharp on the Sens,
Brian Elliott won’t be returning to play in the American Hockey League’s All-Star Classic, Ottawa assistant GM Tim Murray said after Binghamton’s 3-0 win over Philadelphia on Wednesday night.
Elliott was voted the starting goalie for the Canadian Team, but has since been recalled to Ottawa, where he’s made the last five starts for the big club, winning three of them.
“He’s not playing there,” Murray said. “He’s part of our team. ... There’s no possible way that we can send him down here to play in the All-Star game, and then have one goaltender if (Martin Gerber) gets picked up on waivers or whatever the case may be. He’s part of the team now, and he’s no longer an American League hockey player as of now.”
Sounds like Elliott’s got some decision-making to do. Maybe some of the folks in Ottawa can help him get better acclimatized to the city.
Murray will have a lot of contemplating to do, as he ponders what to make of this club, dead one minute, flailing the next. Volchenkov and Donovan should be able to make good use of the break to heal their injuries, reporting back for duty as soon as Tuesday against the Devils.
You? You get a chance to sit back, relax, and enjoy the peace and quiet. Or catch the All-Star weekend to see what 42 of the League’s best players can do. Time for me to begin my busy travel schedule, apologies for the brevity. Enjoy the break though, however you can.
