Bolts Force Game 6 with Decisive Win over Penguins, 8-2

“Boy, that escalated quickly! I mean, it really got out of hand fast!”
Tap of the stick to the Tampa Bay Lightning, who scored the game’s first goal late in the first period and never looked back, blowing the Penguins out in their own barn by an 8-2 score in Game 5.
That said, the Penguins still lead the series 3 games to 2, and Game 6 will be Monday night.

Neal Gets Off Schnide, Pens put Bolts on Brink

It has been almost painful watching James Neal do literally everything except score goals for the Penguins.
After last night, it’s all good James.
Neal’s wrister from the right boards, from a bad angle, got past Lightning goalie Dwayne Roloson at 3:38 of the second overtime to give the Pens a 3-2 win and a 3-1 series edge. The Penguins can eliminate the Bolts Saturday afternoon back in the ‘Burgh.

Penguins Regain Home Ice with 3-2 Win over Bolts

Whatever it takes, I guess.
Despite allowing two powerplay goals, the Penguins were able to grind out three goals, including the eventual game-winner by Tyler Kennedy 31 seconds after Tampa tied it, to give the Pens a 3-2 win in Game Three. The Penguins now regain home-ice advantage in the series.

Welcome to the Playoffs, Mr. Stamkos: Penguins Take 1-0 Series Lead

Tenacious forecheck? - Check. Solid defense? - Check. Stellar goaltending? - Check.
That, combined with an 18 second burst with two goals resulted in a 3-0 Penguins victory over Tampa Bay in Game One of their opening round playoff series.

I won’t do a play-by-play blog, just overall observations, sights, sounds and all that crap.

Not Exactly the Start Penguins were Shooting for

I was sitting around after last night’s 3-2 Opening Night loss to the Flyers in kind of a daze. For the life of me, I just couldn’t find the right adjective to describe the Penguins’ performance.
Jittery? Nervous? Erratic? Tentative? Sloppy?
Whatever the right word, it’s one game folks. Some other observations;

Penguins down Red Wings 5-1 in New Arena Opener

The Penguins got off to a good start tonight in the first ever hockey game at the Consol Energy Center, defeating the Detroit Red Wings, 5-1.
New Penguin Mike Comrie scored the first goal in the new arena. Rookie Ryan Craig scored twice, while Sidney Crosby and Brett Sterling scored as well. Ruslan Salei scored the lone goal for the Red Wings.
Detroit center Johan Franzen left the game early in the first period with what’s being described as a charley horse after a collision with Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik. Orpik was given a major kneeing penalty and a game misconduct.
Pens center Sidney Crosby also left the game after two periods with soreness in his hip flexor. He described it as not being serious.
The Pens return to the ice on Friday night at Columbus.

Penguins’ Rookies Defeat Leafs, 2-1

The Pens rookies raised their record to 2-0 with a slugfest-filled 2-1 win over the Leafs rookies at their rookie tournament in London, Ont.
Geoff Walker and Dustin Jeffrey scored for the Pens, with Jeffrey’s marker coming in the game’s final minute.

Penguins rookies defeat Senators, 5-3

The Penguins rookies won their first game of the rookie tournament at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ont., defeating the Ottawa Senators rookies, 5-3.
Dustin Jeffrey and Zach Sill each scored twice for the Penguins. Penguins defenseman Alex Grant had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher and eventually hospitalized after a hit from behind by David Dziurzynski in the first period.
The Penguins rookies will now face Toronto on Sunday night.

Perplexing Penguins hand home ice to Habs in Game Two loss

What a difference a game makes.
Less than 48 hours after a fairly dominating 6-3 win in Game One Friday night, the Penguins reverted to their cutesy past in Sunday’s matinee Game Two at the Igloo, and as a result dropped a 3-1 decision.
They were awarded 39 shots on goal, but easily could’ve had 50. But they were also awarded nine giveaways, but probably could’ve been awarded at least fifteen. Needless to say, it was a very frustrating game to watch.
Combine that with a strong bounce back performance from Jaroslav Halak, and all of a sudden instead of what looked to be a relatively easy series may now be a real barn-burner.
