24 hours from now…..

Barring overtime (don’t know if I can take that, honestly), we’ll have a Stanley Cup champion this time tomorrow.

We’ve all read just about every Game 7 story known to man.  Doesn’t matter if it’s hockey-related or not.  Doesn’t matter if it was from someone who never wrote a hockey story before just now.

Just a very short note, with a few bullets on what could be the Penguins’ keys to the Cup:

1.  Marc-Andre Fleury must be stellar once again.  If he’s solid once again, he’s going to make things difficult for the Wings.  However, on the flip side, one soft goal could be all she wrote, I fear.

2.  Desperation defense.  Nothing short of a repeat of their effort in Game Six will do.  Get bodies in the Wings’ shooting lanes.  Collapse to the net to prevent Wings’ second chances.

3.  Get pucks on net, get pucks on net, get pucks on net.  I don’t care who scores the goals honestly, but they’ve got to give themselves every opportunity they can.  I’ve noticed that the Wings, especially their defense, has no qualms about firing soft wristers towards the net, simply to get rebound goals (think the game-winner for the Wings in Game 7 vs. Anaheim). The Penguins cannot pass up scoring chances due to forced extra passes.

4.  Finally, the Penguins momentum would receive a huge boost if they get the first goal.

Of course, there are several more items to discuss, but they’ve been beaten to death.

Here’s to a great Game Seven.

LET’S GO PENS !!!

After a hard swim of concentration, I decided not to just write a motivational post, but to write a tribute to the accolades already in place from this season. This will be, regardless of the outcome, one of the best seasons in franchise history in terms of drama. I couldn’t have written it any better. From 10th place in February and sliding to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. From Stanley Cup Finals coach in 2008 to a different Stanley Cup Finals coach in 2009. From lineup changes to trade deadline geniosity (thanks for the word Shaina!). As fans, we can’t ask for much more.

PITTSBURGH, PA—Reports from the Penguins camp have confirmed that star center Sidney Crosby will miss game seven of the Stanley Cup finals. An undisclosed injury has recently been revealed as a ‘severe rectal tear’. The injury was apparently caused during a diving training session with former olympian Greg Louganis at a Red Roof Inn just outside of Pittsburgh.

“It really hurts.” Crosby was quoted after an inspection by his team trainer.

Crosby has also been battling vaginal lacerations caused by a rough, dry shaving at the hands of league commissioner Gary Bettman.

“His hands aren’t as good as mine,” said Evgeni Malkin of Mr Bettman, “but the team really reacts positively when Sidney sports the landing strip.”

“It’s been a really tough series with alot of back and forth action,” said Crosby, “but I always thought we’d get it in the end.”

Apparently, he did.

Ovey says he’s still got a slice in the drive.  His short game is golden.  And he’ll NEVER be good as Sid at putting from the rough.

BTW… you’re from Virginia Beach.  The rules of fanhood essentially make you a pseudo-Pens fan.

Eric Godard is king!

Um, yeah…. Retired Navy, buddy…. Born and raised in western PA…. Truthfully, if it weren’t for the Navy, I’d be lucky to have visited Va Beach once on vacation… wink
