Confluence Jinx is shattered in Penguins’ 6-2 win over Canes

Aaaah, how sweet it is, or was.
Yours truly’s winless record watching the Penguins at the RBC Center (0-5-2 coming into Game Three) was finally erased in the Penguins’ 6-2 trouncing over the Hurricanes.
And the best thing ?? It was witnessed by two to three thousand of my closest Penguin fan friends.
It was a dominating performance by the Penguins, who will go for the sweep Tuesday night back in Raleigh.
Some other observations:
- I’m not going to say anything disparaging about the Canes’ crowd. Sure, it’s loud there. But let’s get some things straight. The music, much like in Washington, is quite loud. The place is filled with horns and cowbells. In relation to the crowd itself, some (not me, although the more I’m there the more I think it’s plausible) have opined that the crowd noise is pumped back into the arena via microphones, much like the Colts did several years ago. Anyway, as usual, the folks there are always friendly. A couple of people on our way back to the car offered up luck in the Finals.
- As I expected, Penguins fans came in full force. A special shout-out to the guys and gals near the arena drinking out of the pseudo-Stanley Cup !!! The upper deck was packed with Penguins fans. I was sitted in the very top row of the upper deck, exactly at center ice. But I have to admit, the seats were not bad at all. You could really see the plays developing.
- You could feel the emotion being sucked out of the building after Malkin’s second goal made it 3-1 at the end of the first period. For the most part, it never really came back. There were spurts, such as when the Canes’ cut the lead to 3-2, but for the most part, the crowd was relatively subdued.
- I listened to the Canes’ post-game show on the way back last night. The vast majority of the callers were blasting Eric Staal. And for good reason.
- Speaking of blasting, and so that I understand, just how long are we supposed to proclaim how great Can Ward is doing ?? 6 goals allowed in Game Two, 5 more in Game Three.
- Speaking of Staal, he and fellow first-liner Ray Whitney were both a game-low -3.
