From NHL.com’s Rocky Bonanno;
He did what?
On May 27, 2009, moments after the Penguins swept the Carolina Hurricanes in the third round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, captain Sidney Crosby glided to center ice at the RBC Center to accept the Prince of Wales Trophy from NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly, signifying Pittsburgh as Eastern Conference champions for the second consecutive season.
Crosby didn’t just accept the trophy, he—gasp!—touched it. He even called over alternate captains Evgeni Malkin and Sergei Gonchar to get the party started.
He did what?

Good for him. Superstition doesn’t make up for poor play (don’t look too deeply into crosby’s final play).
Still…to repeat this year the Penguins will need to finally recognize that they need a magician on crosby’s wing…unless he starts “firing it up”. Granted unselfishness is his game…maybe it’s time to be a little more selfish, or permanently put malkin on his wing.

Hey says he doesn’t believe in it, just like he says that about Santa…even though he can’t fugure out why Old St. Nick’s signature looks just like Mario’s.

Superstition and and religion (organized superstition) is among the most idiotic aspects of sports and life in general, so get rid of that nonsense. The sooner, the better.
I’ve never understood why a winning athlete, who’s trained for most of life within a given sport, thanks Jebus for his fortunes. That’s stupidity. Just say it, “I’ve trained for this most of my life and this is the pinnacle of that effort. Thanks to coaches and teammates we’ve made it this far.”

One other aspect of Pittsburgh’s Stanley Cup drive that Crosby did get superstitious about was his team’s choice of hotel while in Detroit. In 2008, the Penguins stayed in the Westin Downtown. For their return engagement in 2009, the squad bunked in the Ritz-Carlton in Dearborn. Score one for superstition after all.
Since it was built, I always thought that pastel (read:pink) colored building on Southfield stood out like a turd in a punch-bowl. Sidney deciding to have the pens stay there…...well it all starting to make since now.
