Producers of the show have asked that Glen Sather stop calling them and bidding $30 million for that showcase while reminding him that’s not how the Showcase Showdown works anyway.

Before agreeing to do this, Gary Bettman made them promise that if Jim Balsillie just happened to be in the audience that day that they definitely wouldn’t call his name.

Don Cherry is moritified that the Plinkos are trying to ruin hockey.

One of the comments from that blog pretty much sums it up:

Boy, it is hard to understand why the NHL isn’t more popular. Here are its two greatest stars. One is a mumbling homeless person, the other delievers his lines like Corbin Bernsen’s Roger Dorn during the Amex commercial in Major League.

God almighty.

By the way, was I the only one that sort of wanted it to be Dany Heatly driving the new car into the studio. You know, just because?

That’s one of the things I hope 24/7 will do is to show Crosby as something other than the monotone interviewee….

We’ll see…..

Hockey players are bred to be boring. On camera, anyway.  It’s probably my least favorite thing about hockey.

It already did, albeit only about 30 seconds. The one in the dark room and he’s smiling and laughing as he talks, same as on the plane. It’s a completely different person than we usually see, obviously by design - he protects himself.

Yeah, hey…whatever you do, NHL, don’t put more tickets on sale for fans that actually want to go…give them away on a game show!

If that girl kept that showcase, she only did it for the car.

The way they’ve handled the tickets for this thing has been horrendous.  Pisses me off because I would love nothing more than to go…but I’m not paying $300 for a ticket that’s worth $125.

That is funny.

This has been a problem for forever, though. That Gretzky/Howe/Lemieux commercial from y2k had horrendous line-reading.

Really? That’s where we are now, that something akin to being human is seen as progress for Sid?

You don’t get many comments, Tony, so maybe you should keep those controversial ones up, as bait wink

Tony, the season…the season.

And I don’t dislike your blog, I dislike what you write about in your blog.

Wait ...does that make sense?

Can you imagine any other professional sport (other than maybe lacrosse) doing this sort of thing? Does anyone know if she bid or passed? The NHL tries so hard sometimes, and fails so hard.

I don’t mean this as flame-bait, but seriously. To a non-hockey fan, a trip to Pittsburgh in January might sound more like a sentence than a vacation. SCF tickets and a package would be more appealing to a casual fan.
