NHL’S Winter Classic/Heritage Classic Alumni Roster More Than 100 Strong

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals who participate in the 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Heinz Field will join a privileged group of 121 athletes currently on NHL rosters who have forged their own memories of playing in a special NHL game in a unique setting.
Since the NHL’s first outdoor game, the 2003 NHL Heritage Classic, was played in Edmonton, more than 150 players currently on NHL rosters have played in a major outdoor game—at least one from each of the League’s 30 Clubs.
A select 10 active NHL players have played in multiple major outdoor games, with St. Louis goaltender Ty Conklin the only man to have appeared in three. Those players who have dressed for two outdoor games include Boston teammates Michael Ryder and Daniel Paille, Buffalo’s Ryan Miller, Calgary’s David Moss, Dallas’s Adam Burish, Chicago defensemen Brian Campbell and Duncan Keith, Minnesota’s Eric Nystrom and Tampa Bay’s Adam Hall.
Conklin, Paille, Ryder and Campbell are the only current NHLers to have appeared in more than one League outdoor game—although that list could more than triple on New Year’s Day with the addition of Washington’s Jason Chimera (who played for Edmonton in the 2003 Heritage Classic); Pittsburgh’s 2008 Winter Classic alumni Sidney Crosby, Tyler Kennedy, Kris Letang, Evgeni Malkin, Brooks Orpik and Jordan Staal; and Penguins Craig Adams (Chicago, 2009 Winter Classic) and Arron Asham (Philadelphia, 2010 Winter Classic).
