The Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Craig Adams to a two-year contract, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero. Financial terms were not disclosed. Adams, 32, was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. The gritty Adams played a key support role in the Penguins’ drive to the Stanley Cup, chipping in three goals and two assists for five points in 24 playoff games. After being claimed on waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks on March 4, he played nine regular-season games for the Penguins and recorded one assist.
In 507 NHL games over eight seasons with Carolina, Chicago and Pittsburgh, Adams has registered 37 goals and 53 assists for 90 points with 383 penalty minutes. He also won a Stanley Cup with Carolina in 2006. “Craig is a steady, reliable, physical player who was an important part of our mix this season,” Shero said. “He plays with a lot of grit, but he also contributed some key goals in the playoffs and was very effective as a penalty-killer. We’re glad to be able to sign him for two more years.” A native of Seria, Brunei who grew up in Calgary, Adams played four seasons of college hockey at Harvard. He was the final draft pick of the Hartford Whalers’ franchise, going 233rd overall in 1996.

2 million a year for Scuderi is a steal.

Dupuis is already signed through 2010/11.
I don’t get why people are upset over this (Not you Big Rich, people everywhere are PO’d). I bet Shero spent about 5 minutes of his time dealing with Adams. He’s probably signed for no more than 800,000 a year, and this doesn’t really change anything except for how they deal with Ziggy, and of all the things to happen this off season, keeping either Ziggy or Adams makes no difference to me.

I’ve loved and hated CrAdams for several years, and it’s good to see that Shero has faith in him. And it was good to see him hoist the cup again. Great postseason for him, and I hope he continues to do well there.

Why would they deal Dupuis? He is an excllent penalty killer, and teamed with Adams would give needed rest to others during PK, while providing quality minutes to 4th Liners. Dupuis has been a valuable player ever since they got him. I do not believe he is making a fortune. With only a defenseman and right winger left to sign, looks like they can spend a little money on hopefully Scuderi and Fedotenko. Looks like the Red Wings aren’t the only organ-i-zation who can get players to take less money in order to get a shot at the CUP! LET’S GO PENS!!!!

This is a great signing. He took a pay cut to stay, and if Bylsma has enough faith in him to have him on the ice in the last 6 seconds of a Cup-clinching game, I think he will suffice on our fourth line.
Looks like Guerin took a pay cut, as well. Scuds?

Ha. Not so sure about that one. I am thinking someone will offer him in the neighborhood of 3.5 - 4 million a year.
