Penguins recall forward Mark Letestu

From the Penguins:

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Mark Letestu from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, it was announced by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Letestu, 24, has been one of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s top scoring threats with eight points (3G-5A), tying for fourth on the team despite missing five games this season.  Letestu has played the last two seasons in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He finished third on the team in scoring last season with 61 points on 24 goals and 37 assists in 73 contests. Letestu elevated his game in the AHL playoffs by finishing second on the team with 10 points (2G-8A) in 12 post-season games.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound forward signed with the Penguins in the spring of 2007 after completing his freshman season at Western Michigan. During his lone campaign in Western Michigan, Letestu posted 46 points on 24 goals and 22 assists in 37 games, and was named CCHA Rookie of the Year while ranking third in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association in goals and seventh in points.

ahem…tangradi…ahem.

Seriously…isn’t it time to throw the kid into the fire?  You know…when everyone’s hurt or pascal dupuis-ing it through a season?

I really think they’re making sure Tangradi gets a lot of playing time at WBS before getting a call-up…

Having said that, if he and Caputi keep doing well, I think it’s just going to be a matter of time…..

Of course, the injury situation will dictate a lot of that as well….

Tangradi?  Not yet.

Not sure why they wouldn’t call up Caputi, though.  Isn’t he supposed to be one of those “power forward” types?

Eh well, who cares?  GENO IS BACK!

A player should have to earn a call-up. Promoting Tangradi would set him back in terms of him providing the necessary effort needed for his progression.

Tangradi just came back from an injury IIRC, and he needs to convince at the AHL level before the Penguins grants him a promotion. (Had his name been Chris Tangradi things would be different off course.) Letestu has been quite the prolific point producer for WBS and deserves a chance.
