From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Dave Molinari:
The Penguins have submitted a bid to the National Hockey League to have the 2011 All-Star game played at the Consol Energy Center.
There is no word on when the league will select the site for that game.
Also, the Penguins, in conjunction with Robert Morris University, will apply to have the Frozen Four, the college hockey championship, played in the new arena in 2013 or 2014.

I kinda doubt they’ll get it next year. I would think the NHL already has an unofficial feeling where they would want it….
Probably ‘12 or ‘13….

Thought I read somewhere the ‘11 game was tentatively scheduled for Phoenix. No joke.

I would imagine they’d want a brand-new arena to at least get a season under its belt before scheduling an All-Star game, no matter where it is. I’m with Tony… probably ‘12 or ‘13.

It would be good for the game to have it in Pittsburgh. It would also be great for the fans to see all the talent around the league in the new arena.

Agree with Tony, give it a couple years. Will want to make sure that everyone on staff has a year or two working at the arena under their belt, that way they can better predict and handle any possible kinks having an ASG there might turn up. But definitely they will and should get it soon… makes sense to have the ASG in the nicer/newer arenas.

I’ve heard that too. I thought Phoenix was supposed to get 2011, because the lockout canceled the 2005 All Star that they were scheduled to have.

Oh , by all means, please award the game to another team with a new arena.
While your at it, award the game to a twice bankrupt team bailed out by the league with money and top lottery picks in the draft too.

Thanks for playing, chump.
Anyway, I agree that the building needs a year to work out the kinks. It only makes sense to sell the game in the newest buildings, even if the All Star game isn’t the best representation of real NHL hockey.
