Penguins turn tables on Devils, win 1-0 behind Fleury

When we last saw the Devils, it was one of those completely frustrating games that often occurs when playing them.

Well, tonight it was the Devils’ turn to feel that frustration, as they were stoned by Marc-Andre Fleury 37 times and missed some wide open nets as the Penguins blanked the Devils 1-0 for a much, much needed win.

Ruslan Fedotenko’s second period goal that squirted between the body of Devils’ goalie Scott Clemmensen was the only tally of the game.

Fleury had an outstanding game, which he needed as well.  Included in those 37 saves was a spectacular diving left glove save on Devils’ captain Jamie Langenbrunner into a seemingly open net.

However, it should also be noted that the Pens got some fortunate bounces of the puck around Fleury’s net as well. Mark Eaton may have made the save of the night when he just barely got his right skate to stop the puck from going completely over the goalline.  In addition, there were several pucks that were perilously on the doorstep before getting cleared by Pens’ defensemen.

The only goal of the game was scored when Evgeni Malkin brought the puck in the Devils’ zone and coaxed their D-men towards him before quickly feeding it to Fedotenko, who’s wrister somehow got through Clemmensen and over the goalline for the 1-0 lead.

Other notes:
- The Pens powerplay went 0-for-5 with only two shots on goal.
- The Penguins only had 18 shots on goal despite the win.
- John Madden did another excellent defensive job on Sidney Crosby, holding him not only scoreless but shotless.

On a personal note, I’m only going to have some sporadic posts over the next few days.  I’m headed to PA tomorrow morning to visit Mom, and my Internet access will be spotty.  I will be at the Igloo, however, on Tuesday night for Bruins/Pens.
