Surging Penguins regain playoff slot in 4-1 win over Stars

Who needs that Crosby fella anyway, right ?? [ Kidding, just kidding !! ]
The Penguins took advantage of a tired Dallas Stars crew and dominated the play on a Sunday afternoon, getting goal from four different players in a 4-1 win over the Stars.
Pittsburgh, 5-1-1 under IHCDB, is now alone in 8th position in the Eastern Conference race. They could have tied Florida and actually been in 7th place today, but the Capitals did the Pens no favors by getting blown out by the Panthers today, 6-2. So as it is, the Pens are now in 8th, only two points behind both the 6th place Panthers and the 7th place Rangers.
Today’s win also marked the first time since November that the Pens won three straight games.

Penguins’ captain Sidney Crosby will sit out today’s game again vs. the Stars with that sore groin.
Still unknown at this time whether Crosby will be available for Tuesday’s game in Tampa Bay vs. the Lightning.

Penguins’ win today could put them as high as 7th in East

Just a short snippet this morning. Seems like we’ve been talking about important games for about two months now. But today’s game in Dallas versus the Stars is, well, important.
But because of the recent struggles particularly by the Panthers and Sabres a win today by the Penguins, coupled with a Florida regulation loss to the Capitals in D.C. would not only put the Penguins back into a playoff seed, but would actually put them in the 7th spot. The two teams would be tied with 70 points, but the Pens would have the higher seed because of one more win.
Now, naturally, these standings are going to flip-flop every day until April. So that scenario is as temporary as it gets.
But it’d sure look good to Penguins fans, wouldn’t it ??

Penguins send Sydor to Dallas for Boucher

As my colleague Paul has mentioned, RDS is reporting that the Penguins and Stars have swapped veteran defensemen, with the Pens sending Darryl Sydor back to Dallas and the Stars sending Philippe Boucher to the ‘Burgh.
Sydor was not getting much playing time this season, and with Ryan Whitney perhaps a month away from returning, he wasn’t going to be getting much more.
It must be stressed, however, that Sydor was the consummate professional throughout his time in the press box. He did request a trade to GM Ray Shero, but that didn’t affect his attitude towards his younger teammates.
