ESPN Dallas’s Richard Durrett reports that Dallas Stars legend and former Red Wings forward Mike Modano plans on deciding whether he will retire or attempt to continue playing by the middle of September, but in the interim, Modano’s availing himself of his post-career options:
“It’s tough to think about letting go because it’s been a part of your life since you were a kid,” Modano said Friday. “You have to see how you feel and how much you want to do it. I’m still on the fence.”
Modano said he’s talked with several of the league’s television broadcast partners about the possibility of working on the air but isn’t sure what might be available. That includes Fox Sports Southwest, which broadcasts most of the Stars’ regular-season games.
“I’ve filled in a few times doing some analysis and enjoyed it,” Modano said. “Talking about the game is easy, but it’s a matter of getting the TV time under your belt where you feel comfortable with your delivery.”
Modano said he’d also be interested in working for the Stars organization once it has a new owner in place. Modano believes he could help with the club’s marketing.
“We need to get the fan base back up and excited again,” Modano said. “I’d be interested in working for them and doing that.”

What I want to know is whether he is working out at all. ‘Cuz if he’s not, he’s done. (I really think he’s done anyway, but maybe since he’s making noises that he’d like a broadcasting job, he’s trying to keep his name in the news.)

He is acting Favre-ish, which isn’t good, like a guy that won’t go home after the party and it is five am. You need to know when to hang em up, and he is long past time.

With all due respect, of course.

About The Malik Report
The Malik Report is a destination for all things Red Wings-related. I offer biased, perhaps unprofessional-at-times and verbose coverage of my favorite team, their prospects and developmental affiliates. I’ve joined the Kukla’s Korner family with five years of blogging under my belt, and I hope you’ll find almost everything you need to follow your Red Wings at a place where all opinions are created equal and we’re all friends, talking about hockey and the team we love to follow.

I’m an alumnus of the University of Michigan, possessing bachelor’s degrees in English and Secondary Education. I have no formal journalistic training, however, so I’m trying to make blogging work while entering through an open window. I’m simply a partisan Wings fan who believes that passionate but professional bloggers fill a complimentary and contextual gap between the objective media and fans, and I can boast being the first blogger to be granted access to the past four Wings’ “summer strength and conditioning camps,” as well as the Red Wings’ 2010 prospect tournament and main training camp in Traverse City, MI.
