Hockey Assault
by Alanah on 05/02/08 at 03:10 PMComments (0)
From the Canadian Press:
A 17-year-old hockey player has been charged with assault with a weapon following an alleged stick-swinging incident during an Ontario Minor Hockey Association game in Paris, Ont., that ruptured an opponent’s spleen.
It’s alleged that on Feb. 22, a player on the Paris Wolfpack midget team took a “two-handed baseball swing” with his stick and struck a Caledonia Thunder player in the abdomen, causing him to fall to the ice and later be taken to hospital, provincial police Const. Larry Plummer said Friday.

Report: Penguins Talbot Out with Broken Foot
by Alanah on 04/30/08 at 01:13 PMComments (1)
From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
Penguins center Max Talbot is believed to have broken his right foot blocking a shot during the Penguins’ 5-3 victory in Game 3 of their second-round playoff series against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden last night.
Talbot, one of several players hobbled after blocking shots last night, had his foot in a walking boot when he reported to the Garden for practice today.
Team officials declined to discuss the precise nature of Talbot’s injury, or his prognosis. Talbot also declined to talk about it, but when asked if he expects to be able to play again—albeit not at a specific time—he responded simply, “I hope so.”
Ducks Updates: Perry and Niedermayer
by Alanah on 04/17/08 at 02:47 PMComments (0)
From the AP via KTEN.com
Anaheim right wing Corey Perry said he probably will play in Game 4 of the Ducks’ playoff series against the Dallas Stars.
After a morning skate-around, Perry said he felt good but acknowledged it will be a game-time decision whether he will play Thursday night. The Ducks’ top goal scorer hasn’t played since March 6, when the quad tendon above his right knee was lacerated by the skate of Colorado goalie Jose Theodore.
Fellow right wing Rob Niedermayer did not make the trip to Dallas for Thursday night’s game, remaining home with concussion-like symptoms. He also missed Game 3.

Volchenkov Expects to Play Game #2
by Alanah on 04/10/08 at 04:04 PMComments (0)
From Ian Mendes at Sportsnet.ca,
Anton Volchenkov told reporters on Thursday that he expects to play in Game 2 on Friday night in Pittsburgh, after leaving Game 1 with a head injury.
The defenseman said he did not suffer a concussion when he blocked a Evgeni Malkin shot with his forehead in the second period Wednesday night. He required 15 stitches to close the gash and says that if he is able to put on a helmet, he will suit up for Game 2. He did not participate in a full team practice in Pittsburgh on Thursday.

Koivu Uncertain to Return to Start Playoffs
by Alanah on 04/05/08 at 03:31 PMComments (0)
From the CP via the Globe & Mail,
Saku Koivu is optimistic his fractured left foot will heal enough to let him start the playoffs but the Montreal Canadiens captain said Saturday nothing is certain.
“What’s going to happen in the future, for the first game, we’ll see next week,” Koivu said. “Every day it feels better, but there’s not much we can tell.
“We’ll know a lot more in the next couple of days.”

Lecavalier to Undergo Shoulder Surgery
by Alanah on 04/05/08 at 02:19 PMComments (0)
From Sports Network,
Lecavalier returned to Tampa on Friday to undergo further diagnostic testing by team physician Dr. Ira Guttentag. The evaluation revealed that Lecavalier suffered damage to the Glenoid Labrum of the right shoulder and will require surgery.
He is expected to make a full recovery in 12-15 weeks following the procedure, which will be scheduled in the near future.
“While I’m disappointed to be facing surgery at this time, I’m looking forward to working hard during the summer to be ready for training camp in September,” Lecavalier said.
Sens Lose Alfredsson and Fisher for “Weeks”
by Alanah on 04/04/08 at 01:47 PMComments (3)
From TSN,
The Ottawa Senators will not have forwards Daniel Alfredsson and Mike Fisher in their lineup for the forseeable future, as head coach and general manager Bryan Murray told reporters Friday that both players have knee injuries and will be out for “weeks.”
Making things worse for Ottawa’s captain is a head injury suffered after a hit by Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mark Bell on Thursday night, identified by the team as an upper body injury.
Canucks Lose Morrison For the Season
by Alanah on 03/27/08 at 01:14 PMComments (10)
From TSN:
The Vancouver Canucks’ postseason hopes have taken a hit.
Brendan Morrison is done for the season and the playoffs after suffering a torn ACL. The 32-year-old has battled injuries this season and missed significant time (38 games) after having wrist surgery in mid-December.
Update 10:30am PT:
And in other news: Roberto Luongo has now left the team for the greener pastures of a Florida maternity ward, and about 1000 (and counting) Canucks fans are expected to throw themselves off the Lions Gate bridge sometime later this afternoon.
In other words… just another day in Vancouver.

NHL Must Institute No-Touch Icing
by Paul on 03/22/08 at 09:14 PMComments (1)
from CBC Sports,
Cherry said the National Hockey League must institute no-touch icing precisely because Foster was forced to do what he did.
“Look, if you want to wear a visor, you can wear a visor, that’s your choice,” Cherry said to host Ron MacLean. “If you want to fight, you can fight, that’s your choice.
“[Foster] had no choice.... If he doesn’t go in, he’s chicken, and it’s too bad, what was he going to do? Hold up and let the guy go in? He has to go in, and that’s too bad.”
Update 10:07pm ET: Foster is currently healing, post-surgery. Below, we’ve added Youtube footage of Don Cherry’s complete comments on the matter:

Flyers Lose Two
by Alanah on 03/17/08 at 07:49 PMComments (3)
From the Sports Network via WJAC,
Struggling to get into the postseason, the Philadelphia Flyers learned on Monday that defenseman Derian Hatcher will be out for the season with a fractured right tibia and forward R.J. Umberger will miss the next two weeks with a sprained MCL.
Hatcher was hurt with 12:07 left in the first period of Saturday’s 3-2 overtime loss to Boston while blocking a slap shot by Bruins forward Andrew Ference. Hatcher was helped off the ice and did not return. The right leg was broken just above the ankle and was placed in a cast on Saturday. It is possible he might return to play if the Flyers make the postseason.
Health Problems in Columbus
by Alanah on 03/17/08 at 05:44 PMComments (0)
From Tom Reed at Puck-rakers,
You just knew the Jackets’ good health wouldn’t last. Goaltender Pascal Leclaire will miss at least the next two games with a possible concussion, coach Ken Hitchcock said. He was struck in the mask with a puck during pre-game warm-ups on Sunday.
Freddy Norrena will make his second straight start against Calgary on Tuesday night in Nationwide in what promises to be a testy game. [...]
Jackets’ winger David Vyborny is out for 7-to-10 days with a knee sprain. There was fear Sunday night that Vyborny’s season and possibly his Blue Jackets career might have been over.
And from TSN: “The Blue Jackets called up goaltender Dan LaCosta from the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL on an emergency basis.”

Player Has Brain Surgery Following College Game Injury
by Alanah on 03/17/08 at 05:11 PMComments (1)
From Rick Couchman at Hockey.com,
Someone is going to die, someday, but luckily for Tom Pohl, he came out on the fortunate end of things.
There was a close-call in Minnesota last night, but it looks like the hockey fraternity dodged a bullet this time, and considering the events, it could have been tragic.
Let’s face it, some collisions are so significant that you can’t help but wonder how people survive. Especially when it involves someone’s skull smashing into the boards.

What’s Up in Los Angeles?
by Alanah on 03/11/08 at 09:47 PMComments (4)
There was an Iain MacIntyre article in the Vancouver Sun this morning which brought up some serious issues about Dan Cloutier’s experience since his trade to the Los Angeles Kings. In it, MacIntyre addressed issues about Cloutier’s recent career that hadn’t been publicized before.
Specifically:
But harder than stopping the puck was the feeling Cloutier had—has—that the Kings weren’t doing much to help him.
The team insisted he shed his birdcage wire mask and helmet, citing insurance issues. Cloutier was never comfortable in a traditional mask, and a few games into last season he was feeling physical discomfort.
He was having hip pain. He volunteered to keep playing because the Kings’ other goalie, Mathieu Garon, had a broken finger. Cloutier’s pain got worse, but the team insisted initially there was little wrong with him.

Sabres Lose Spacek and Kalinin
by Alanah on 03/11/08 at 02:06 PMComments (0)
From the CP via TSN,
Jaroslav Spacek could miss the rest of the regular season and Dmitri Kalinin will be out for weeks, leaving the Buffalo Sabres without two veteran defencemen for their final playoff push.
Spacek has a chest injury and will require more tests to determine when he could return, but coach Lindy Ruff said Tuesday, “It’s going to be a good period of time.”
As for Kalinin, Ruff said the player will miss up to two weeks with a shoulder injury.
Krajicek Gone for the Season
by Alanah on 02/19/08 at 03:36 PMComments (0)
From TSN, some dismal—though not entirely unexpected—news:
CKNW radio in Vancouver has learned that the Canucks have lost defenceman Lukas Krajicek for the remainder of the season. He will have season-ending surgery on his shoulder this week in Vancouver.
In far more positive news, Kevin Bieksa appears to be shaping up fast:
[He] participated in the full practice Monday but won’t play for the Canucks until he gets at least one American Hockey League game under his belt with the Manitoba Moose.
“I felt a little bit better today than the other day,” said Bieksa, out since Nov. 1 with a lacerated calf. “It’s hard to say if I will be ready to play this weekend. It could happen.”
Doan Played with Broken Hand
by Alanah on 02/15/08 at 03:52 PMComments (0)
From Jim Gintonio of The Arizona Republic,
Two things fans know about Shane Doan: The Coyotes’ captain had a slow start, and then he cranked up his offense to the point where he was the third-leading scorer in the NHL during January.
What was not known: He did it with a broken hand.
Doan just smiled when asked about the injury, which is healed.
“He plays the same way all the time,” coach Wayne Gretzky said. “He played hard at the beginning of the year; he just wasn’t scoring any goals.”
Brind’Amour Out For the Season
by Alanah on 02/14/08 at 10:45 PMComments (0)
From TSN (and CP),
If the Carolina Hurricanes hope to make the playoffs, they will have to do so without their captain.
General Manager Jim Rutherford announced that the team will be without Rod Brind’Amour for four to six months after he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during the first period of Thursday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Following the game the Hurricanes announced that Brind’Amour would undergo reconstructive knee surgery.
Stastny Close to Returning for the Avs
by Alanah on 02/06/08 at 05:40 PMComments (0)
From Rick Sadowski at the Rocky Mountain News,
Avalanche center Paul Stastny practiced for the second day in a row this morning and said he felt fine, but he won’t play tonight against the San Jose Sharks at the HP Pavilion.
But Stastny, who underwent an appendectomy Jan. 17, is optimistic about returning to the lineup for Saturday’s game in Vancouver against the Canucks.
“Hopefully, after I skate for two more days, I’ll be ready Saturday,” he said. “It doesn’t feel any different, to tell you the truth. It feels good. Everything is good. I don’t feel any different than I did before I had the surgery.”
Heatley “Probable” for Return Thursday
by Alanah on 02/06/08 at 02:36 PMComments (0)
From TSN,
The Ottawa Senators should get some much needed help up front on Thursday, as winger Dany Heatley is expected to return to the lineup against the Florida Panthers after spending four weeks on the injured list with a separated shoulder.
“I feel pretty good,” Heatley said after skating Wednesday. “We’ll see how it is when I wake up tomorrow. It’s been feeling really good all along, so we’ll see tomorrow.”
Coach John Paddock was optimistic that Heatley would be ready for Thursday.
“I’d say he’s probable,” Paddock said. “I don’t think he’s going to be at 100 percent until tomorrow, but he’s feeling comfortable, so probable to likely is the impression he gave me.”
Mitchell Out with Fractured Vertebra
by Alanah on 01/29/08 at 03:57 PMComments (6)
From the CP (via Canada East Online):
Vancouver Canuck defenceman Willie Mitchell is sidelined with a fractured vertebra in his back.
Mitchell said Tuesday he won’t accompany the NHL team when it leaves Wednesday on a four-game road trip.
Mitchell, who has already missed three games, said he hurt his back after being checked during a game against Calgary after Christmas. He played nine games before the pain became too great.
Uh oh…
Update 2:45pm PT -- CBC:
There is no specific recovery time for this type of injury — a stress fracture to the L2 vertebra in Mitchell’s back — but Vigneault said it could affect him for up to five weeks. Vigneault also said Mitchell could play through the injury without aggravating it, though the pain might be too much.
“All the doctors that checked him, have all came to the same conclusion, with this type of stress fracture, if he can endure the pain, there is no way he can aggravate it,” the coach said. “It shouldn’t be that much longer, knowing Willie Mitchell, in my mind anyways.”
Devils Without Madden
by Alanah on 01/16/08 at 12:48 PMComments (0)
From Rich Chere at the Star-Ledger,
John Madden said it is very unlikely he will be in the lineup tonight at the Prudential Center because of the risk involved with the skate cut on his right ankle.
“It’s just in a bad spot,” Madden said yesterday after missing a second straight day of practice. “There would definitely be contact with my ankle. Where the cut is, it keeps rubbing. Who knows what could happen?”
If the cut is reopened and with sweat inside his skate boot, Madden’s ankle could become infected and he would be lost for a much longer period of time. That’s a risk the Devils would rather not take.

Updates on Numminen and Thibault
by Alanah on 01/09/08 at 06:20 PMComments (1)
From Mike Harrington at Sabres Edge,
Lots of news from the Sabres camp Wednesday around Teppo Numminen and Jocelyn Thibault—two guys who haven’t seen the ice much this season outside of practice.
The latest on Numminen is that he’s been told he has to wait six months after his heart surgery—or the middle of March—before Sabres doctors clear him for full contact. And while it still smells like the Sabres are trying to shirk their way out of paying any of his $2.6 million salary, I reached Numminen at his home today and he said, “doctors talk to doctors” when asked what has changed in the last week since he gave a glowing post-practice report after a return from the Cleveland Clinic. The heart is fine but no one, he says, is confident the scar in his chest cavity is sufficiently healed for him to play.

Canucks End Mid-Season Vacation
by Alanah on 01/08/08 at 05:03 AMComments (9)
The Canucks end a 4 night vacation to return to action Tuesday, healthy, practiced and ready to stomp the Islanders…
Or not. After all, this is the Canucks we’re talking about:
The Vancouver Canucks’ blue-line corps, already reeling from the indefinite absence of Mattias Ohlund (concussion) and Kevin Bieksa (lacerated calf), has another potential problem on its hands.

No Surgery For Toews
by Alanah on 01/03/08 at 02:02 PMComments (0)
From TSN,
The Chicago Blackhawks received some good news Thursday as an MRI revealed that Jonathan Toews’ knee injury is a sprain and no surgery will be required.
Hawks’ General manager Dale Tallon expected the 19-year old Toews to miss the next three to four weeks.
The electrifying rookie suffered the injury in the first period of Tuesday’s Blackhawks’ loss to the Kings. Toews said he felt as though he “changed directions too quickly” after going hard into the boards.
Fernandez Likely Gone for Season
by Alanah on 12/13/07 at 01:59 AMComments (0)
From Stephen Harris at the Boston Herald,
Barring an unexpectedly quick rehabilitation, goalie Manny Fernandez’ first year as a Bruin ended yesterday when he underwent surgery to repair a torn MCL in his left knee.
Fernandez first suffered the injury last season while with the Minnesota Wild, but it continued to bother him and has affected his play since training camp.
“It’s a relief, because we know he’s going to be in shape for next year,” B’s general manager Peter Chiarelli said last night before his team’s 4-3 win over the Thrashers. “It’s likely that he’ll be gone the whole year, maybe not, but he’ll be ready for next year.
“It’s been a chronic thing all year and Manny felt he couldn’t perform at 100 percent. He had to alter his style. I’m not ruling out him coming back this year, but we’re under the assumption that with proper rehab, it’s going to take the rest of the year.”

Brendan Morrison Getting Surgery
by Alanah on 12/12/07 at 06:45 PMComments (0)
From TSN,
The Vancouver Canucks have announced that forward Brendan Morrison will undergo surgery on his wrist later this week.
Morrison has been experiencing chronic wrist pain and did not make the trip to Anaheim for Wednesday’s game with the Ducks.
“After further consultation with our team doctors it was decided that surgery was the best course of action,” said Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis. “The best long term decision for Brendan and our hockey club is to have this addressed immediately.”
No word on how long Morrison will be out now.
Update 4:19pm PT: How long? Not surprisingly, the CP uses the word “indefinitely” which has an ugly ring to it. But I suppose, with any luck, Canucks fans won’t hear it again anytime soon in relation to Roberto Luongo…

NHL’s Ironman Halted at 542 Games
by Alanah on 12/11/07 at 03:57 PMComments (1)
Sportsnet.ca is reporting:
Canucks forward Brendan Morrison will see his consecutive games streak of 542 end on Wednesday night when he sits out vs. the Anaheim Ducks.
Morrison injured his wrist in the pre-season and the injury continues to nag him, so he has been sent back to Vancouver for treatment.
His streak is currently the longest in the NHL. The all-time record is held by the Montreal Canadiens’ Doug Jarvis with 964.

Luongo Staying Out
by Alanah on 12/11/07 at 12:55 PMComments (4)
Earlier today, Jason Botchford at The Ice Hole reported that Roberto Luongo has been nursing a rib injury, forcing him to sit out Monday night in Los Angeles. Now the CP is reporting that the Canucks have also called up goaltender Drew MacIntrye from the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.
Luongo told reporters later he has been nursing a bruised rib all week after being injured Dec. 2 at Minnesota.
“It just got worse over the last two days, and I’ve been in pain all day,” he said. “I was trying to see how I felt in warmups, but it wasn’t good enough for me to go. It’s not broken, but it hurts when I breathe and it hurts when I move. It’s tough to do your job under those circumstances. It’s day-to-day right now. Hopefully it’s just a few days. It’s almost got to heal on its own.”
Additionally, Mason Raymond and Jason Jaffray were also called up from the Moose.

Groin Problem Slows Down Cheechoo
by Paul on 12/11/07 at 07:51 AMComments (2)
via MediaNews,
The team is listing him as day-to-day, and Cheechoo said he honestly had no idea if there was a chance he could play tonight against the Minnesota Wild at HP Pavilion.
“It’s a little sore right now,” Cheechoo said. “It might take a little time to heal. I’ll just have to see how it reacts.”
On his sixth shift Saturday, Cheechoo was digging for a puck in the corner when the ice gave way beneath a skate. He slipped and felt something pull.
He also doesn’t know if the groin injury is related in any way to the double hernia surgery he had last May. But the medical staff, he added, is treating this as a new injury.

Surgery For Boucher
by Paul on 12/05/07 at 10:48 AMComments (1)
via the Dallas Stars,
The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has placed defenseman Philippe Boucher on the injured reserve list and have recalled right wing Junior Lessard from the Iowa Stars, Dallas’ primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League.
Boucher, 34, is set to have shoulder surgery today and will be re-evaluated in four weeks
Volchenkov Suffers Hand Injury
by Paul on 11/30/07 at 07:45 AMComments (0)
from the Ottawa Sun,
To make matters worse, the Senators’ injury list is growing. Defenceman Anton Volchenkov could be out for an extended period after leaving the game with a hand injury after blocking a shot on the first shift.
While the Senators are fortunate Christoph Schubert was able to slide back and play on the blueline, losing Volchenkov is costly. He logs a lot of minutes and is usually assigned the job of shutting down the top players in the league with Jaromir Jagr and the New York Rangers visiting tomorrow at 2 p.m.
more on the Senators/Predators game last night…
update 10:33am, via TSN,
Sources tell TSN Anton Volchenkov suffered a broken finger last night when he blocked a shot and it’s expected the Ottawa Senator defenceman will be sidelined for four weeks.
Pandolfo Will Miss At Least A Game
by Paul on 11/29/07 at 02:54 PMComments (0)
from Fire & Ice,
Left wing Jay Pandolfo said he will not play in Friday night’s home game against Montreal because of the “pelvis area” injury he sustained in the third period of Wednesday’s 4-2 win over Dallas. “I won’t be able to play tomorrow,” he said. “It’s disappointing. You never want to be hurt, but, hopefully, it’s not that bad. I think it’s day to day.”
Pandolfo’s ironman man streak will end at 307 consecutive regular season games (the third longest in team history). He last missed a regular season game on Jan. 18, 2003 against Carolina because of a mild concussion (that was the last of four consecutive games he sat out).

Stick To Black & White Rules
by Paul on 11/29/07 at 09:33 AMComments (3)
from the Windsor Star,
Last season, defenceman Sean Hill was suspended 25 games by the league after testing positive for steroids.
For his attack on Moore’s brother, Bertuzzi - like Shore a player with a history of violence - missed only 20 games.
In other words, in a span of more than 70 years, not much has changed when it comes to the NHL disciplining its violent offenders.
Hockey remains the only sport where the rules vary as the game progresses. Penalties in football and fouls in basketball are called the same way no matter how much time remains on the clock.
“Make the rules black and white and enforce them as they are written,” is Moore’s challenge to the NHL.
Wild Shuffling with Demitra Back
by Alanah on 11/28/07 at 05:53 PMComments (0)
From Russo’s Rants at the Star Tribune,
Pavol Demitra is definitely playing. Matt Foy is coming out for him. Second straight time he’s been scratched after a two-point game. Foster skated today and hopes to practice tomorrow. Nummelin and Harding skated but won’t play.
Demitra has officially been activated for tonight’s game. Harding has been placed on injured reserve to make room for him. This is becoming a shuffling game.
Leading my notebook with the bad luck the Wild has had with facial injuries. Three guys wore full cages today. I said to Jacques it looks like college, and he said, “like a kennel.”

Van Ryn Hopes To Avoid Surgery
by Paul on 11/28/07 at 08:43 AMComments (0)
from the Sun-Sentinel,
While his teammates left for Washington on Tuesday, Panthers defenseman Mike Van Ryn went to receive a cortisone injection in his right wrist.
It’s likely the last resort for Van Ryn before he’s forced to have surgery on that wrist for the third time in a year and a half — surgery that would end the 28-year-old’s season and possibly his seven-year NHL career.

via the AP,
Stars right wing Jere Lehtinen will be out indefinitely with an abdominal strain, but might not need surgery as the team originally thought, coach Dave Tippett said after Friday night’s 3-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Earlier on Friday night, the club said Lehtinen would undergo surgery on Monday, but Tippett said that was “premature.”
“We’ll continue to look at it,” Tippett said. “We’ll do some tests and see how it reacts over the next few days.”
Steve Sullivan Finally Seeing Improvement
by Paul on 11/22/07 at 07:05 AMComments (0)
from the Daily News Journal,
He’s elevated his off-ice workouts without suffering any of the relapses or back spasms that have plagued him for so long.
It may not sound like much, and there’s still no timetable for Sullivan to return, but a player who’s spent his entire hockey career turning doubters into believers is confident he’s in the process of doing it again.
“The last two weeks have been great because every day I’m able to do a little bit more and wake up somewhat pain free, or at least not being worse the next day,” Sullivan said.
“Am I planning on skating next week? No. But on the other hand, am I three months away? I don’t think so. In my mind, I’m finally seeing results, whereas for the first eight months I hadn’t seen any.”

White May Attempt Comeback Tonight

from the NY Post,
It has been two months and Colin White’s blurry vision may not improve much more. He’s considering playing against the Penguins here tonight, but even if he doesn’t, the time is near. He needs to know, and so do the Devils....
If White, making $3 million, isn’t able to resume his career, the Devils will have to replace him or endure a season of struggling. Sources say the Devils have already looked around, just in case.
One glaring possibility would be Phoenix’s Ed Jovanovski, who used his no-trade clause to turn down a trade to the Islanders this summer. Jovanovski is struggling with the struggling Coyotes, although Newark might hold little more appeal than Nassau.

Fernandez Has a Plan
by Alanah on 11/17/07 at 01:02 PMComments (0)
From Kevin Dupont at the Boston Globe,
It wasn’t the answer Manny Fernandez wanted.
“No, it wasn’t,” said the Bruins’ injured netminder yesterday, his knee woes making him a spectator for most of this season. “But at least we’ve reached a decision. We have a plan, and now we’ll go from here.”
The plan, in a nutshell: 1. get back on skates immediately; 2. build up leg strength through on-ice workouts and off-ice rehab; 3. hope for the best.
All of that, which Fernandez plans to begin as early as tomorrow in a late-morning workout, is in lieu of surgery.

Berard Set to Return to Islanders
by Alanah on 11/14/07 at 02:04 PMComments (1)
From Erik Boland at Newsday,
The quarterback for a power play that Islanders coach Ted Nolan said lacked power in Monday’s loss to Philadelphia expects to be back on the ice tomorrow night in Pittsburgh.
Defenseman Bryan Berard took the point position on the power play during practice yesterday and said the injured groin that has kept him sidelined six straight games felt “100 percent.”
Berard has not played since leaving the Oct. 20 game against the Devils. “Today was probably the first day I felt 100 percent,” he said. “It’s been a little longer than I would have liked but I kind of got lucky enough where with our schedule, I haven’t missed that many games.”
