Surgery For Havlat
by Paul on 03/12/08 at 07:18 PMComments (0)
from Icing at the Chicago Tribune,
The Blackhawks’ Martin Havlat is scheduled to undergo surgery on his injured left shoulder in Cleveland on Thursday, according to coach Denis Savard.
It will be the third time the winger has had surgery on the shoulder, the second while with the Blackhawks. He injured it twice this season, missing 22 games after suffering a dislocation during the first game of the season and hasn’t played since re-injuring it Feb. 27.
Savard said Havlat’s rehabilitation should last, “at least four months. Part of it is he’ll have to be in a sling for three weeks doing nothing and then start rehab from there. They’re going to solve that problem that’s in there.”
Havlat Expected To Miss Significant Time
by Paul on 02/29/08 at 08:40 AMComments (0)
from the Daily Herald,
Whether he’s out a week, two weeks or the rest of the season, chalk it up as yet another lost season for injury-prone Blackhawks forward Martin Havlat.
Havlat injured his left shoulder again on his first shift of the second period in Wednesday’s home victory over Phoenix and underwent an MRI on Thursday afternoon. The results won’t be announced until today.
Hopes aren’t high, though, considering it’s the same shoulder Havlat hurt in an opening-night scrum in Minnesota, causing him to miss the next 22 games, and also the same one he had surgery on in Ottawa.
“I don’t think he’ll be back in the next week or two weeks,” Hawks coach Denis Savard said. “It’s pretty much the same type of injury he got in Minnesota.”
This guy just can’t stay healthy, hopefully next year will be different.
Forget The Trade Rumor
by Paul on 02/01/08 at 08:32 AMComments (0)
via Icing at the Chicago Tribune,
I don’t buy into too many trade rumors, but one I read today said the Blackhawks were shopping Martin Havlat. Being a semi-diligent reporter I put in a call to general manager Dale Tallon and he said he’d heard the same rumor.
Turns out it’s not true.
“I’m not shopping him at all,” Tallon said.
Tallon also said he’s not close to any other deal.
Havlat A Game Time Decision
by Paul on 01/06/08 at 03:37 PMComments (0)
from Icing at the Chicago Tribune,
The Blackhawks left the ice a little while ago following their morning skate in preparation for tonight’s game against the Detroit Red Wings.
There may be a surprise return of injured star Martin Havlat. The winger, who has missed the last six games with a groin injury, said his groin is “getting better. We’ll see how it feels tonight and we’ll go from there. We’ll probably make a game-time decision.”
“I just want to be back playing hockey again,” Havlat added. “That’s my goal right now and help the team. It felt pretty good yesterday and today, I just didn’t get a real test during a practice but we’ll see how it goes.”

Havlat To IR
by Paul on 12/26/07 at 11:19 AMComments (0)
via the Chicago Blackhawks,
General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have recalled forwards Martin St.Pierre and Michael Blunden from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. The Blackhawks have also placed forwards Martin Havlat (groin), Dave Bolland (broken finger), and Ben Eager (mild concussion) on injured reserve.
Hopefully for the Blackhawks, the moving of Havlat to the IR is just a short term issue.
Havlat Returns To Ottawa
by Paul on 12/22/07 at 08:55 AMComments (0)
from the Ottawa Sun,
Once the Blackhawks winger found out Chicago was playing in Ottawa, he purchased a private box at Scotiabank Place for all his close buddies in the capital....
“It’s going to be special to come back there and play in my first game,” said Havlat, 26, the Senators’ top pick in 1999 with the No. 26 selection. “I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately. There were so many good nights in that building, so many special moments and the thing I enjoyed the most was that we always had a team that made the playoffs.
“We always had a chance ever year. The winning, and having the chance to win, was always something I enjoyed. That’s what every hockey player wants to have in his career.”
Havlat Back Tonight
by Paul on 11/28/07 at 07:34 AMComments (0)
from the Chicago Daily Herald,
But the biggest story tonight is Havlat’s return. The all-star winger has battled injuries for much of his first two seasons with the Hawks, although when he has played he has been one of the most dynamic scorers in the NHL.
“It feels pretty good, but I guess we’ll find out now how it feels in a game,” Havlat said Tuesday. “It’s been great to watch the team win. I just want to come back and help.”
The concern is Havlat’s twice surgically repaired shoulder won’t last the season. The Hawks will be holding their breath on every hit, but Havlat won’t be.
“I have to do what I do best, and if I think about it then I’m not going to be able to play the way I can,” Havlat said.
Havlat May Return for Hawks Next Week
by Alanah on 11/19/07 at 04:27 PMComments (0)
Press Release from Chicago Blackhawks:
Blackhawks forward Martin Havlat underwent a strength and evaluation test on his injured shoulder today at the Cleveland Clinic. The results verified that Havlat’s shoulder continues to improve and get stronger. The possibility exists that he may return to the Blackhawks lineup on Wednesday, November 28th, when the Blackhawks host the Tampa Bay Lightning at the United Center at 7:30 p.m.

Havlat Improving
by Paul on 11/09/07 at 10:54 AMComments (0)
from the Chicago Tribune,
“I’m making progress every day,” Havlat said. “I’m still not in place with a couple of movements to where I want to be. I still have to work on those.”
Havlat has been strengthening his right shoulder and will wear a brace during practices and games.
“We have to make sure the shoulder is strong enough, almost as strong as the other one, because when I come back I want to help as much as I can,” Havlat said. “If I come back 50 percent, I can’t be the player I can be.”
added 3:03pm, from Icing at the Chicago Tribune,
Savard said he approached injured winger Martin Havlat this morning and said: “You ready? You playing tonight?”
Havlat said not yet as he recovers from the shoulder injury he suffered during the first game of the season.
“As long as his mind is clear, that’s the biggest thing,’ Savard said. “He’s going to have to make that decision, I can’t make it for him.”

Havlat Not Ready For Contact
by Paul on 11/07/07 at 07:53 AMComments (0)
from the Chicago Daily Herald,
Martin Havlat is not quite ready for a practice with contact.
“I was hoping for this week, but we want to make sure he’s mentally ready for it. That’s a big key,” Denis Savard said. “His mind-set is not quite there yet.”

Report- Havlat Close To Return
by Paul on 11/05/07 at 04:32 PMComments (0)
from ESPN Fantasy Talk,
A little birdie (aka a report in the vaunted Chicago Tribune) told me that Havlat may be back in the active lineup at some point during the current Chicago homestand this week. Say what you will of Havlat’s fragility—and much has been said, after all—but he’s shown he’s capable of point-per-game pace when in the lineup, and there’s no reason to believe he won’t achieve that upon his return.

Havlat Will Not Require Surgery
by Paul on 10/14/07 at 08:52 AMComments (0)
from the Chicago Tribune,
While not quite official, it’s appearing more and more likely Blackhawks winger Martin Havlat will not require surgery on his injured right shoulder.
The team has the opinion of four doctors and awaits a fifth and final one before making a final decision, but coach Denis Savard said he expects his star forward back in a matter of weeks, not months.

Havlat Status Still Up In The Air
by Paul on 10/09/07 at 07:15 AMComments (0)
from the Chicago Daily-Herald,
If the Blackhawks are fortunate enough to catch a break—and it’s still a huge “if”—they will be without top scorer Martin Havlat for the next 4-6 weeks.
But if the news is bad later this week after Havlat has several more doctors examine his injured right shoulder, he could be lost to the Hawks for the rest of the season.

Havlat Status Undetermined
by Paul on 10/06/07 at 02:57 PMComments (1)
via Red Wings Corner,
Chicago coach Denis Savard said that Martin Havlat, who is out of tonight’s game against the Red Wings with an injured shoulder, isn’t skating, isn’t lifting weights. His only workout right now is the bicycle. Havlat’s status won’t be determined for another week.
I have also heard he is getting a 2nd opinion on his shoulder injury, and yes, it is the same shoulder he injured last season.

Havlat Hurt
by Paul on 10/05/07 at 08:30 AMComments (1)
from the Chicago Daily-Herald,
Then Martin Havlat’s name came up and things soured.
Because when the Hawks’ go-to guy skated off the ice, bent over from the waist in obvious agony late in the third period after being sandwiched by a pair of Minnesota players in front of the Wild net, it suddenly didn’t matter that they had played so well in dropping a 1-0 decision in the season opener.
What mattered was that after the game Havlat’s right arm was in a sling and his right shoulder had already been X-rayed with results to be announced today.

Kicking Around With Havlat
by Paul on 10/04/07 at 01:17 PMComments (0)
from Marcie Garcia at NHL.com,
There are times when the basement of the United Center, home of the Chicago Blackhawks, can feel like a soccer pitch. While going through the doors and into the corridors outside the dressing room, sounds of squeaky gym shoes and lively shouts warn of a game in progress.
Right wing Martin Havlat, the Hawks’ big gun, is one of the aspiring soccer stars.
“It’s just a good way for us to warm up,” says the 26-year-old Czech Republic native, by far the biggest soccer fan on the team
Chicago Dealing With Injuries
by Paul on 09/28/07 at 07:12 AMComments (0)
from the Chicago Sun-Times,
Martin Havlat, their leading scorer last season, felt pain in his groin in the first period of Tuesday’s exhibition game against the Florida Panthers and skated off the ice. He didn’t return in that game and didn’t take the ice when the Hawks resumed training camp Wednesday in Bensenville.
‘’He’s day-to-day,’’ Savard said. ‘’I’d like to have him play Sunday in the last exhibition game [at Minnesota]. I’d like the whole team to be available then.’’
That won’t likely happen. Rookie center Jonathan Toews, who broke an index finger in the second preseason game Sept. 19, remains doubtful for the Oct. 4 opener at Minnesota, and Tuomo Ruutu, also listed as day-to-day, is nursing a sore knee.
