Lightning Name Jon Cooper AHL Coach

TAMPA BAY, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Lightning have hired Jon Cooper to be the head coach of the American Hockey League’s Norfolk Admirals today, Admirals General Manager Julien BriseBois announced. Cooper joins the Admirals from the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League.
“We are pleased to announce Jon as the head coach of the Admirals today,” BriseBois said upon making the announcement. “He has excelled at a championship level in each location he has coached and we are happy he elected to continue his career in the Lightning organization. Jon is a perfect fit as we strive to restore a winning culture for our players and the fans in Norfolk.”
Cooper, a native of Prince George, British Columbia, has spent the previous two seasons with the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL, posting an 84-27-9 record. He also led the Gamblers to two Anderson Cups, awarded to the USHL regular season champions, and one Clark Cup, given to the playoff champions.

Oilers Sign Martin Gerber

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with goaltender Martin Gerber on a one-year contract.
Gerber, 35, played last year with Altant Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). In 30 appearances he went 15-6-6 with a 2.19 GAA and .914 save percentage.
Gerber, who is from Burgdorf, Switzerland, was originally drafted 232nd overall by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. In two seasons with the Ducks he played in 54 games going 26-21-5 before being dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes where he led the Canes to to a division championship. In 60 games Gerber posted a 38-14-6 record, 2.78 GAA and .906 save percentage.

Kurt Kleinendorst Named Head Coach At Binghamton

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the club has named Kurt Kleinendorst head coach of its American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators. The contract is a two-year agreement and will run through the 2011-12 season.
Kleinendorst, 49, spent last season as the head coach of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program’s under-18 team, leading it to a to gold medal at the 2010 IIHF U-18 World Hockey Championship held in Belarus. He also served as an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2008 IIHF World Hockey Championship in Halifax and Quebec City.

Sabres Sign Marc-Andre Gragnani

BUFFALO, NY (August 5, 2010) – Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani to a one-year contract.
Gragnani (3/11/1987, 6’2”, 201 lbs.) spent the 2009-10 season with Buffalo’s AHL affiliate in Portland, scoring 43 points (12+31) in 66 games. His 12 goals were third among AHL blueliners, and he was 11th in defense scoring. In addition, six of Gragnani’s 12 goals were scored on the power play. In three AHL seasons with Portland/Rochester, the 23-year-old has 146 points (35+111) in 220 games. He has also played in six NHL games with the Sabres during this time.
Gragnani was drafted by Buffalo in the third round (87th overall) of the 2005 Entry Draft.

Predators Trade Michael Santorelli.To Florida

Nashville, Tenn. (August 5, 2010) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired a conditional fifth-round pick (from Florida) in the 2011 Entry Draft in exchange for restricted free agent forward Michael Santorelli.
The Predators now have nine selections in next summer’s Entry Draft at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. In addition to Florida’s pick, and seven picks of its own, Nashville acquired a second-round pick from New Jersey in June.
Santorelli was a sixth-round choice of the Predators (178th overall) in the 2004 Draft.

Dave Scatchard Signs With Blues

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has signed forward Dave Scatchard to a two-way contract.
Scatchard, 34, spent his 2009-10 campaign between the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Milwaukee Admirals and the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Nashville Predators. With Milwaukee, he made 36 appearances and posted 30 points on 20 goals and 10 assists to go along with 59 penalty minutes while he registered five points on three goals and two assists to accompany 17 penalty minutes in 16 games with Nashville. During the past 13 seasons, the 6-3, 210-pound center has had an NHL-heavy career including stints with Vancouver, the New York Islanders, Boston, Phoenix and Nashville totaling 651 games, 268 points (128g, 140a) and 1034 penalty minutes. In addition, his NHL playoff career has spanned 17 games and yielded four points (2g, 2a) and 34 penalty minutes. He has also accrued 49 points (29g, 20a) and 138 penalty minutes in his 74-game AHL career which has included stops in Syracuse, Hartford and Milwaukee.
The Hinton, Alberta native was originally drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the second round, 42nd overall in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.

Sharks Form Affiliation With Stockton Thunder

SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President General Manager Doug Wilson and Vice President and Assistant General Manager Wayne Thomas announced today that the Sharks have signed an affiliation agreement with the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL for the 2010-11 season. The Worcester Sharks continue to serve as San Jose’s American Hockey League affiliate.

“We are very excited to add the Stockton Thunder as our ECHL development affiliate,” said Wilson. “The Thunder have done a great job bringing winning hockey to their market and we think the proximity of our teams will provide mutual benefits for both franchises on and off the ice.”
Stockton will also continue to serve as an affiliate for the Edmonton Oilers.
“The San Jose Sharks have been one of the premier NHL organizations over the last several years and we’re very excited to begin working with them this upcoming season,” said Stockton Thunder President Dan Chapman. “For geographic reasons this affiliation makes a great deal of sense and we also look forward to their participation in making the Thunder an even better team in 2010-11.”

Deslauriers Comes To Terms With Oilers

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with goaltender Jeff Deslauriers on a one-year deal.
Deslauriers, 26, played in his second National Hockey League season last year appearing in 48 games sporting a 16-28-4 record with a 3.26 GAA and .901 save percentage.

Danny Syvret Signs With Ducks

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed defenseman Danny Syvret to a one-year contract through the 2010-11 NHL season. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.
Syvret, 25 (6/13/85), appeared in 21 games for the Philadelphia Flyers last season, earning 2-2=4 points with a +1 rating and 12 penalty minutes (PIM). Syvret’s first career NHL goal was the opening tally of the 2010 Bridgestone Winter Classic on Jan. 1 at Fenway Park, a 2-1 Flyers loss to the Boston Bruins. Syvret scored his second career goal two games later in a 6-2 win over Toronto on Jan. 6 at Wachovia Center. The 5-11, 203-pound defenseman spent the remainder of the season with Philadelphia’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in Adirondack, picking up 5-8=13 points with six PIM in 15 games.
