Avalanche Sign Six Players

DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that it has signed forwards David Jones, Chris Durno, Darren Haydar, Matt Hendricks and Brian Willsie, along with goaltender Tyler Weiman.

“We feel that bringing David back helps to solidify our lineup,” said Avalanche General Manager Greg Sherman. “In addition, we’ve added to our organizational depth with this group of signings.”

Colorado Signs Cody McLeod

DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club formally announced today that the team has signed forward Cody McLeod to a three-year contract.

McLeod, who turns 25 this Friday, scored 15 goals with five assists and 162 penalty minutes in 79 games during his second NHL season in 2008-09.  He was one of four NHL players with at least 15 goals and 150 PIM and became only the second player in Avalanche history to reach both marks in a single year (Chris Simon, 1995-96).  McLeod led Colorado with 194 hits and shared the club lead in game-winning goals with three.

Colorado Calls Up Chris Stewart

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that forward Chris Stewart has been recalled from the Lake Erie Monsters, the team’s American Hockey League affiliate. He will be available for tonight’s game against the Dallas Stars.

It’s Stewart’s first career NHL call-up in the regular season after spending the last two seasons in Lake Erie where he has compiled 11 points (5g/6a) in 19 games played this year. During the 2007-2008 campaign, Stewart’s first full year as a pro, he recorded 44 points (25g/19a) in 77 games at Lake Erie. Stewart was recalled by Colorado during the 2008 playoffs, but did not dress.

Avs Place Tucker On IR, Recall Cuminsky

DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that it has recalled defenseman Kyle Cumiskey from the Lake Erie Monsters, the team’s American Hockey League affiliate in Cleveland. 

Cumiskey leads all Monster defensemen in scoring with eight points (1g/7a) in 16 games played. He was recalled earlier this season by the Avalanche on November 6 and appeared in one game (Nov. 6 vs. MIN) before being reassigned. During the 2007-08 season, Cumiskey appeared in 38 games with the Avalanche, recording five assists.

In a related move, the Avalanche placed forward Darcy Tucker on injured reserve with a knee injury suffered in last night’s game in Anaheim. He’ll be sidelined approximately four weeks.

Avalanche Recall Willsie

DENVER (November 22, 2008) – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that forward Brian Willsie has been recalled from the Lake Erie Monsters, the team’s American Hockey League affiliate in Cleveland. He will meet the team in Los Angeles and be available for tonight’s game against the Kings.

This marks Willsie’s first call-up of the season from Lake Erie where he leads the Monsters in goals (8), points (14) and plus/minus rating (+7). After posting goals six consecutive games to start the year, Willsie has recorded five points (2g/3a) in his last four games. Willsie has compiled 104 points (51g/53a) in 334 NHL games, including 15 points (7g/8a) in 69 games with the Avalanche.

Avalanche Adjust Roster

DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that it has recalled forward David Jones from Lake Erie of the American Hockey League.

Jones was loaned to Lake Erie yesterday (Thursday, Nov. 6) to make a roster spot for defenseman Kyle Cumiskey.  Jones, 24, has appeared in 10 games for the Avalanche this season, tallying a goal and one assist.

The Avalanche was granted a non-roster exemption, as forward Cody McCormick has been given permission to leave the team for personal reasons.

Avalanche Recall Hensick

DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that forward T.J. Hensick has been recalled from the Lake Erie Monsters, the team’s American Hockey League affiliate. He will be available for tonight’s game against the Minnesota Wild.

It’s Hensick’s first call-up of the season from Lake Erie where he leads the Monsters in scoring (6g/7a) and is tied for fifth among all AHL scorers. His three power play goals lead the Monsters.
