Vancouver Recalls Sergei Shirokov

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that right winger, Sergei Shirokov has been recalled from the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.
Shirokov, 24, leads Manitoba in scoring with 33 points (16-17-33) and is +10 with 24 penalty minutes in 39 games played. Shirokov has two penalty minutes in six games played with the Vancouver Canucks in 2009.10.
The 5’10”, 175 lbs. Moscow, Russia, native was selected by Vancouver 163rd overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Vancouver Signs Matt Pettinger

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the team has signed free agent forward Matt Pettinger. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Pettinger, 29, recorded 15 points (8-7-15) and 24 penalty minutes in 59 games played with the Tampa Bay Lightning during the 2008.09 season. The 6’1”, 205 lbs. forward has played 413 career NHL games (64-56-120) recording 120 penalty minutes. Pettinger played 20 games with Vancouver in the 2007.08 season after being acquired at the NHL trade deadline from Washington and recorded six points (4-2-6) and 11 penalty minutes with the Canucks.

Canucks Sign Sergei Shirokov

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the team has signed right wing, Sergei Shirokov. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Shirokov, 23, recorded 41 points (17-24-41) in 56 games with CSKA Moscow of the KHL in 2008-09. He has also appeared in two World Junior Championships as a member of team Russia in 2005 and 2006. In 12 games played over two tournaments, Shirokov registered 13 points (7-6-13).

Calgary Flames Pick Up Nycholat From Waivers

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today the acquisition of defenceman Lawrence Nycholat off NHL waivers.
“Nycholat is a similar type player to Mark Giordano,” said Sutter. “We were prepared to give up a draft pick to acquire a depth defenceman.”

Ducks Acquire Brown From Vancouver

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired right wing Mike Brown from Vancouver in exchange for defenseman Nathan McIver.
Brown, 23 (6/24/85), appeared in 20 contests with the Canucks this season, collecting one assist (0-1=1) with 85 penalty minutes (PIM). He was tied for second on the club in PIM at the time of the trade. The 6-0, 210-pound winger played in 19 games with Vancouver in 2007-08. He scored his first NHL goal on Dec. 2, 2007 at Minnesota in just his third NHL game. In 39 career NHL contests over two seasons, Brown has earned 1-1=2 points with 140 PIM.
