GLENDALE, ARIZONA —Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have acquired a fifth round draft choice in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for the rights to prospect Jared Staal.
The draft choice, which was previously acquired by Carolina from Nashville, currently gives the Coyotes five picks in the upcoming Entry Draft, including two first round choices. The 2010 Entry Draft will be held at Staples Center in Los Angeles on June 25-26.
Staal, 19, recorded 12-37-49 and 57 penalty minutes (PIM) in 59 games for Sudbury of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) this season. The forward was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the second round (49th overall) of the 2008 Entry Draft.
