ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed center Petteri Nokelainen to a one-year contract extension through the 2010-11 NHL season. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.
Nokelainen, 23 (1/16/86), split his third NHL season with Anaheim and Boston in 2008-09, combining for 4-5=9 points with a +2 rating and 16 penalty minutes (PIM) in 50 games. Overall, Nokelainen won 53.4% of his faceoffs (156-for-292) while averaging 11:15 time on ice (TOI) and 15.5 shifts per game. The 6-1, 195-pound center, who was acquired from Boston in exchange for defenseman Steve Montador on Mar. 4, 2009, made his Anaheim debut on Mar. 6 vs. Dallas and scored his first goal as a Duck on Mar. 11 vs. Vancouver. He also appeared in nine of Anaheim’s 13 Stanley Cup Playoff games, missing four contests with an abdominal strain.
