The Detroit Red Wings activated veteran right wing Darren McCarty from injured reserve and assigned him to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.
McCarty has missed most of the season after undergoing sports hernia surgery in January. In 13 games with the Red Wings, he has one goal and 25 penalty minutes.
The four-time Stanley Cup champion has registered 127 goals and 161 assists to go along with 1,477 penalty minutes in 15 NHL seasons, all but two with Detroit.
